A No. 5 seed has never won the NCAA Tournament, so the Duke Blue Devils are looking to make history this year. We have already seen a lot of action on Duke to win the national championship with the Blue Devils' odds to win the NCAA Tournament dropping from 40-1, and they are a very popular pick to make the Sweet 16 since Tennessee is not the same team since losing Zakai Zeigler.

However, the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles have the potential to play spoiler. Oral Roberts was a No. 15 seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament and knocked off Ohio State and Florida to make the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in program history. The Summit League champions have the longest win streak in the country with 17 consecutive victories, and their only four losses this season were Quad 1 defeats.

The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles will look to pull off a huge upset when they face the Duke Blue Devils on Thursday, March 16, 2023. This game will tip off at 7:10 p.m. ET on CBS from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

Oral Roberts Golden Eagles vs. Duke Blue Devils Betting Prediction

There is plenty of buzz surrounding Duke ahead of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils weren't a great team for most of the season, but they closed out the campaign with nine straight victories on their way to winning the ACC Tournament.

Their talented freshmen finally started to come together, and that has the potential to make Duke a very tough out in March Madness. However, the Blue Devils can't afford to look past Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles are a well-coached team, and the only team to soundly beat them this season was Houston. Oral Roberts will put up a strong effort, but Duke's talent will carry the day in the end.

Oral Roberts Golden Eagles Betting Preview

The Golden Eagles have one of the best offenses in the nation. Oral Roberts ranks seventh overall in effective field goal percentage and second in turnovers. This team doesn't get a lot of offensive rebounds and doesn't go to the free throw line that often, but the Golden Eagles are elite in every other facet of the game on offense.

Max Abmas is one of the top scorers in the country, averaging 22.2 PPG. Abmas is a high usage guard that is hitting 44.1% of his field goals and 37.7% of his three-point attempts, and he is an excellent free throw shooter at 91.8%. He will have the ball in his hands a lot as his 4.0 APG are tops on the team too, but Oral Roberts does a great job of distributing the rock.

All four starting guards are averaging at least 2.4 APG. Isaac McBride is the third leading scorer on the team with 11.9 PPG, and he is the best perimeter shooter as he is hitting 41.1% of his threes. Kareem Thompson has been excellent as a versatile guard in this offense, as he ranks second in rebounds and assists, and he is hitting 39.2% of his threes. Connor Vanover allows the team to stretch the floor too as a 7'5 "forward" that has already knocked down 43 triples on the season.

Duke Blue Devils Betting Preview

Kyle Filipowski has been excellent for Duke over the last month. Filipowski is tops on the Blue Devils with 15.4 PPG and 9.0 RPG, and he has recorded an Offensive Rating of 100 or more in eight of his last nine games. The 7'0 center initially played too far away from the basket, but he has adjusted lately, and that has made Duke a more dangerous team. The Blue Devils are the tallest team in the country, and it's hard to stop them in the paint when they aren't settling for threes or mid-range jumpers.

There are three other big men to watch for Duke. Dereck Lively II is an outstanding defender, and his offense has steadily improved over the course of the season. Lively is averaging just 5.4 PPG and 5.0 RPG, but he is seeing more and more playing time because he is averaging 2.3 BPG in under 20 MPG of playing time. Ryan Young has carved out a niche for himself, and Mark Mitchell had six straight games of 10+ points before laying an egg against Virginia.

The X-Factor for Duke is Tyrese Proctor. The Blue Devils have the big men to make a deep run at the NCAA Tournament, but the guard play is a major concern. Jeremy Roach has experience at the position, but he doesn't have the raw talent that so many other players too. Proctor hasn't been a very effective shooter, yet he is starting to do the other things well, and that could be huge if the Blue Devils face Tennessee in the second round.
