Oklahoma hasn’t been upset so far but bettors might not be too happy about the way in which they’ve won. The Sooners didn’t cover a huge number in their victory last week against Nebraska, and take on a hot West Virginia team coming off a win against Virginia Tech. The Mountaineers will have an uphill battle trying to penetrate Oklahoma’s defense, and simply can’t afford to turn over the ball.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Oklahoma Sooners Predictions

WVU has bounced back nicely from their season opener against Maryland, it’s just they haven’t taken on top talent like the Sooners. Oklahoma’s lone sin this season is they didn’t blowout Tulane or Nebraska. While it won’t be WCU-bad, there’s some pent-up frustration built up with the Sooners. They’ll get a convincing win against visiting WVU as the Mountaineers won’t get up early and survive turnovers like they did last week against the Hokies.

West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 2-1
  • ATS: 2-1
  • O/U: 1-2
  • ATS - Home: 2-0
  • ATS - Away: 0-1

This is a steep hill to climb for a Mountaineers team that left the door open for Va Tech last week. They also saw multiple late turnovers from QB Jarret Doege, something that will kill WVU this week, especially on the road. The problem this creates for WVU is it takes away some of their aggressive play calling downfield, while relying on Leddie Brown way too much in this game. They won’t be able to match scoring drives with Oklahoma if WVU is too run-heavy. That’s the difference in a lopsided loss.

Oklahoma Sooners Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 3-0
  • ATS: 1-2
  • O/U: 2-1
  • ATS - Home: 1-2
  • ATS - Away: 0-0

This isn’t a bounce back game, nor a prove it game for Oklahoma, it’s just the perfect time for them to hit their stride. There’s a game with K-State looming next week, and a couple of tough games down the line in conference. The Sooners have a significant advantage in the air, as WVU was lit up by both Maryland and Virginia Tech. If Oklahoma takes some shots down the field and stretches this WVU defense, it could be a long day for the Mountaineers. WVU won’t be able to slow down Spencer Rattler in the air and on the ground.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have gone OVER the point total in four of their last five games when playing in Norman. (AP)

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Oklahoma Sooners Betting Conclusion

There’s some hesitation to lay the 17 points at home for Oklahoma, mainly because of last week. This is a perfect example of recency bias and I’m more than happy to fade that. Marvin Mims might be the biggest standout player when it’s all over, as he stands the best chance to torch the Mountaineers pass defense. Oklahoma wins this by three touchdowns, covering that 17-point spread.
