The Red Raiders picked up a 63-10 victory over Murray State of the FCS in the opener Sept. 3, covering a 38-point number. Things tightened up in the second game, as one would expect, and it was a bad beat for some bettors, too. Texas Tech outlasted Houston 33-30 in double-overtime, much to the dismay of UNDER bettors. The Red Raiders tied it up 20-20 to force OT with :03 left in regulation, and UNDER (62) bettors know what that one shook out. Yep, there were 40 total points in regulation, and 23 points in the extra session, or just enough.

NC State came into the season with some unusual expectations, ranked in the Top 15. The Wolfpack headed to East Carolina as a 12-point favorite to open the season and nearly stumbled at the Rowdy Dowdy, before escaping with a 21-20 win. The Pirates misfired on a field goal at the buzzer. Hey, sometimes you're good, and sometimes you're lucky.

The Wolfpack bounced back at Carter-Finley last weekend, roughing up a poor Charleston Southern team of the FCS, 55-3. QB Devin Leary has gotten off to a good start, throwing for five touchdowns and just one interception, while running for two more scores. However, he has completed just 56.9% of his passes, and needs to tighten up a bit.

QB Donovan Smith stepped in under center and led the Red Raiders to the win last week in OT, and he has completed 67.6% of his passes for 572 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions while running for another score. It is a classic case of next man up.

Texas Tech has cashed in five of its past seven road games, while going 19-9-1 ATS in the past 29 games in the month of September. The Red Raiders have managed an 0-4-1 ATS mark across the past five games following a straight-up win.
