Heavily favored Tiz the Law won an unprecedented Belmont, claiming victory Saturday at the first race of the 2020 Triple Crown.
The 3-year-old colt from upstate New York closed as a 4/5 betting favorite and won 3 3/4 lengths while finishing 1:46:53 over the shortened distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Manny Franco was the winning jockey and it was the first career victory at Belmont Stakes for the 25-year-old. It was also the first Belmont win for trainer Barclay Tagg, who has now completed the career Triple Crown.
Tiz the Law paid $3.50, $2.90 and $2.60 on Win-Place-Show wagers and will likely be the favorite for the 2020 Kentucky Derby, which is scheduled to take place on September 5 from Churchill Downs.
Dr Post finished second Max Player was third.
Dr Post paid $5.80 and $4.20 on Place-Show wagers while Max Player paid $5.20 on Show bets.
Pneumatic completed Superfecta wagers with a fourth place finish.
