At the Gate – Sunday

We have seven more Breeders’ Cup Challenge Win and You’re In races in the U.S. today, with three each coming at Belmont Park and Keeneland.

They are included in today’s Best Plays Report except for the $500,000 Flower Bowl Invitational (G1) where Sistercharlie is the 1-5 morning line favorite and I can’t find a foe in that race that can beat her.

The $400,000 Frizette (G1) drew a field of seven two-year-old fillies led by Spinaway (G1) runner up Frank’s Rockette and impressive maiden winner Wicked Whisper.

The winner of the race stamps a ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) on Nov.1 at Santa Anita.

The winner of the $150,000 Futurity (G3) will earn a spot in the field for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. The Wesley Ward rained Four Wheel Drive is the 9-5 morning line favorite.

At Keeneland, the $200,000 Indian Summer is also a Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Nine are entered led by the Ward trained Kimari and Ontario Racing winner Old Chestnut.

The $250,000 Bourbon (G3) winner goes on to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) and drew a competitive field of 14. Vitology is the 4-1 morning line favorite and is coming in off a third in the Summer (G1) at Woodbine in his last outing.

The feature is the $500,000 Spinster (G1) which is a prep for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1). The race only drew five, but is a strong field led by Elate, Blue Price and Dunbar Road.

Here is the opening race from Belmont Park to get the day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Md Sp Wt (12:45 ET)
#7 Marquet Legacy   5-2
#3 Amazing Zero   8-1
#1 The Great Johanna   3-1
#6 Amos   3-1

Analysis: Marquet Legacy made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot last out over the turf here in her second start off a 10-month layoff. She was sixth two back off the bench after a fifth last fall in her debut here going six furlongs. She makes her third start of her current form cycle here for the Clement barn. She is by Gio Ponti and a half to stakes winners Discreet Marq ($1.2 million) and Marquet Cat ($387,081). She does not need to move forward much off her last effort to earn her diploma here.

Amazing Hero stretches out to a route for her second career start after a good debut. She was next to last early and made a good late run to finish third going 5 1/2 furlongs at the Spa at 8-1. She has enough pedigree to go long, by Magician out of a Polish Numbers mare. The Morrison barn is 21% winners moving runners from sprint to route.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 7 The Futurity G3 (4:12 ET)
#4 Four Wheel Drive   9-5
#3 Embolden   7-2
#5 Another Miracle   5-2
#1 Freewheeler   5-1

Analysis: Four Wheel Drive was bumped coming out of the gate, prompted the early pace and drew clear late to win the Rosies at Colonial Downs in his debut. The runner up So Street came back to win the Howard County at Laurel Park in his next start while the fourth-place finisher Hypothesis came back to win the WV bred Mercer Memorial at Charles Tow in his next start on Sept. 21. The Ward trainee should only get better with a race under his belt He is by American Pharoah out of the stakes winner Funfair ($82,500) and the colt was a $525,000 purchase.

Embolden is also coming off a win at Colonial, winning the Va bred Jamestown last out. She broke her maiden there as well, drawing off to win by 10 lengths. She was second in her debut to Meru, who returned to win the Smoke Glacken at Monmouth Park in his next outing on Sept. 21. The Stidham trainee faces tougher here but looks up to it. He is out of the stakes winner Silver Heart ($596,824).

Another Miracle is coming off a smart win in the Skidmore last out going 5 1/2 furlongs in his turf debut. He broke his maiden on the main track at the Spa two back in his second career start. This guy is by American Pharoah out of the stakes winner Retraceable ($370,564) who has dropped two other winners including one other turf winner. Contessa is looking to get off the duck at the meeting, missing with his first 37 starters.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Keeneland:

KEE Race 8 The Bourbon G3 (5:10 ET)
#9 Prince of Thieves   15-1
#5 Fighting Seabee   6-1
#10 Peace Achieved   5-1
#12 Art Collector   6-1

Analysis: Prince of Thieves stretches out to a route of ground for the first time here in his third career start. He has been off a beat slow in both starts, last out outrun early and coming with a good late run to finish third going 6 1/2 furlongs at Kentucky Downs in the Juvenile Turf Sprint. By Into Mischief out of a Divine Park mare, he should get better going longer. Casse won this race three years in a row from '15-17. Geroux sticks and we should catch a decent price on this colt.

Fighting Seabee is perfect in his two starts. He broke his maiden at Ellis Park going a mile in his debut for a barn that does not win first out very often. He shipped to Saratoga where he took the field gate to wire to win the With Anticipation (G3) improving his speed figure by 19 points. He likely will not be on the lead here as he got away with moderate early fractions last out but he showed in his debut he can sit off the pace.

Peace Achieved broke his maiden in his third career start at Ellis Park going a mile and came back to win the Juvenile at Kentucky Downs last out in a sharp effort going a mile The runner up and 10th place finisher exited that race to beat Alw-1 foes in their next starts. He should get a good trip sitting just off the pace here. He is out of a FuPeg mare that ash dropped three other turf winners.
