Last year’s Champagne (G1) winner Complexity got the job done yesterday at Aqueduct in his return off a five-month layoff beating second level allowance foes.

I made him my second choice behind Fuel the Bern figuring he would be sent off at 3-5 but instead he was cold on the board and ended up returning a decent $6.30 for the victory. We hit the recommended exacta at $18.80 and the trifecta which paid $53.74 for $1.

In the finale Seven Plus Seven was my third at 3-1 on the morning line and got hammered down to even money which I thought was the underlay of the day.

I dropped a few more bucks on my top two choices Talespin and De Berg in the exacta pools, but the favorite got the job done very easily returning $4.30 with a couple of longshots running second and third with the trifecta paying $309.00.

A lousy way to end the afternoon.

We were off the turf yesterday with some rain falling earlier in the week, but we should be back on the grass this today.

Analysis: J J Jen drops in for a tag for the first time here for the Hennig barn that has won with 3 of his last 8 (with a +ROI) dropping from maiden special to maiden claiming. The filly tired to finish eighth last out on the main track and returns to turf. She ran on turf fin her first three career starts, a fourth in her debut here and then a fourth at Belmont Park. The class drop here should help her and her first two turf efforts were good enough to be in the mix in this spot. She is out of a Cuvee mare that ash dropped four winners including one turf winner.

Deja Raconte prompted the early pace and weakened to finish fourth on turf at the Spa in her debut. She was claimed out of the race by the Klesaris barn and returned off a 3 1/2-month break for the same tag last out. She set the early fractions and weakened to finish fourth, beaten 1 1/4 lengths. She appears to have as much upside as any in here and Irad takes the call for Klesaris. She has a decent turf pedigree, by Freud out of a Halo's Image mare that has dropped one other runner, a dirt winner. She does not need to move forward much off her first go for the barn to pick up her diploma in this spot.

Analysis: Catch a Cab is one of two in here sent out by the Servis barn and this guy is going to be the better price. The gelding tracked the early pace, had to wait for some running room in behind foes turning for home and finished gamely in a runner up finish against open $25,000 claimers. He is 0 for 4 since the barn claimed this guy for $25,000 back in June. He looks headed in the right direction form wise and will appreciate the return to the state bred ranks.

Gambler's Fallacy adds blinkers here and drops into an easier spot after a sixth last out against state bred Alw-2 optional claimers. He won his first two career starts and then came up short five times at his second state bred condition while earning numbers good enough to win at this level. The Brown barn is 25% winners when adding the hood. He fits well in here but needs to see some pace and there is not a ton of early speed signed up to go here.
