Corbin Carroll to Hit a Home Run (+420 | FanDuel) vs. (SP: Tanner Bibee)

On MLB Network, the Arizona Diamondbacks will take on the Cleveland Guardians tonight. Each of these teams is on the outside looking in with respect to their Wild Card races.

For this matchup, we’ll zero in on Corbin Carroll, who has a juicy +420 number on FanDuel Sportsbook, which feels too long for this matchup.

Carroll has hit 21 of his 27 home runs against righties, with an impressive .581 SLG, and 146 wRC+ against the same side.

He’ll take on Tanner Bibee, who has allowed 22 home runs on the year. He has especially struggled against lefties, allowing 1.6 HR/9 against that side.

Jose Altuve to Hit a Home Run (+850 | bet365) vs. (SP: Tarik Skubal)

Next up, we have a long shot in future Hall-of-Famer Jose Altuve.

Altuve is undoubtedly not a home run hitter, and on the surface, he has a brutal matchup against arguably the league’s best pitcher in Tarik Skubal. So, why are we going with him?

First, despite not being a slugger of sorts, Altuve has 22 longballs to date with an impressive .811 OPS. And Altuve has been equally remarkable against righties as he has against lefties, so if the Astros can get Skubal out of the game, Altuve is still a threat to go deep against right-handers.

For his matchup, Skubal, although brilliant once again this season, has shown signs of deteriorating as of late. Since the All-Star break, Skubal has relinquished three, four, and three earned runs, respectively, while allowing four home runs combined. Going into today’s start, Skubal is fifth in the MLB in innings pitched. The Tigers are 0.5 games ahead of the Blue Jays for the AL’s top seed, but may look to limit Skubal’s usage with five weeks left of regular-season play.
