Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros Betting Predictions

The Chicago White Sox enter this matchup third in the AL Central standings, four and half games behind Minnesota for first place. The White Sox were crushed in game-one of this series 13-3, but managed to bounce back and take game-two on Saturday 7-0. Following Saturday's win, Chicago has gone 5-5 SU in their last 10 games. The offense has been mediocre most of this season, averaging 4.07 runs per game. The bullpen has not been great either with a team ERA of 4.17. Right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech is scheduled to start Sunday. Kopech is 2-2 in 11 games this season with an ERA of 1.92 and has given up 24 hits, 11 earned runs, and struck out 51 batters in 51.2 innings of work.

Houston is currently first in the AL West standings with a nine-game lead over the second place Texas Rangers. The Astros were shutout against the White Sox on Saturday after putting up 13 runs in game-one and have gone 5-5 SU over their last 10 games. As seen in games one and two of this series, the offense has been a bit inconsistent this season and average 4.26 runs per game. Aside from allowing seven runs on Saturday, Houston’s bullpen has been great this season with a team ERA of 3.05. The right-hander Cristian Javier is expected to take the mound Sunday. Javier is 3-3 in 12 games this season with an ERA of 3.20 and has given up 40 hits, 18 earned runs, and struck out 63 batters in 50.2 innings.

I like the value in the White Sox moneyline in game-three as I do not think either team has a huge advantage over the other. Kopech has been solid this season and with a WHIP of 0.93, should be able to keep the Astros runs to a minimum. The White Sox offense looked much better on Saturday and I expect that momentum to carry into Sunday against Cristian Javier. Backing Chicago moneyline here.

Chicago White Sox Betting Analysis

After defeating the Astros on Saturday afternoon, the White Sox are now 31-32 SU, 29-34 ATS, and have an O/U record of 30-30-3. The total has gone over in seven of the Chicago’s last nine games. Following this trend, the total has gone over in 12 of their last 15 when playing an American League opponent. The White Sox are 6-1 SU in their last seven road games and 18-15 SU on the road this season.

Chicago’s offense has struggled to bring in runs this season. As a team the White Sox have a batting average of .252 (7th), on base percentage of .307 (21st), slugging percentage of .378 (23rd), and have scored 264 runs (25th). Designated Hitter Andrew Vaughn is having a fine season with a batting average of .322 (56-174), six home runs, and 29 RBIs. The first baseman Jose Abreu has also been contributing with a batting average of .267 (62-232), nine home runs, and 32 RBIs.

The White Sox bullpen has pitched two shutouts in their last three games. On the season they are allowing opponents a batting average of .247 (20th), have a WHIP of 1.37 (25th), and have an ERA of 4.10 (21st). Right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech is scheduled to start Sunday. Kopech is 2-2 in 11 games this season with an ERA of 1.92 and has given up 24 hits, 11 earned runs, and struck out 51 batters in 51.2 innings of work. In his most recent start against the Dodgers, Kopech gave up one hit and zero runs while striking out eight batters in 6.0 innings.

Houston Astros Betting Analysis

The Astros have been the team to beat in the AL West and have gone 40-25 SU, 31-34 ATS, and have an O/U record of 21-42-2. The total has gone over in four of Houston’s last five games against the White Sox. Going against this trend, the total has gone under in 13 of their last 19 home games. The Astros are 7-1 SU in their last eight home games against Chicago and 17-10 SU at home this season.

Houston’s offensive production is down a bit from previous years, but are still putting up enough runs thanks to fantastic work from their bullpen. As a team the Astros have a batting average of .237 (21st), on base percentage of .315 (15th), slugging percentage of .412 (7th), and have scored 277 runs (20th). Left fielder Yordan Alvarez leads the team with a batting average of .316 (66-209), 18 home runs, and 47 RBIs. The right fielder Kyle Tucker is also having a solid season with a batting average of .264 (55-208), 13 home runs, and 41 RBIs.

The Astros’ bullpen has been pitching very well this season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .221 (3rd), have a WHIP of 1.13 (4th), and have an ERA of 3.05 (3rd). The right-hander Cristian Javier is expected to take the mound Sunday. Javier is 3-3 in 12 games this season with an ERA of 3.20 and has given up 40 hits, 18 earned runs, and struck out 63 batters in 50.2 innings. In his most recent outing against the Rangers, Javier struck out seven batters in 6.0 innings while giving up five hits and two runs.

Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros Betting Conclusion

I like the White Sox to win game-three of this series. Kopech has been having a great season and has given up more than two runs in just two of his 11 games. I expect that trend to continue Sunday and for the Astros to struggle at the plate. The White Sox also have the momentum advantage in this one after putting up seven runs against Houston's Justin Verlander on Saturday. Backing the White Sox moneyline in this matchup.
