The Most Deal Obsessed States in America – November 2024

There is no better feeling than finding a bargain when you’re shopping, and with Christmas just around the corner it’s the perfect time to find those discounted gifts.

But which American states are the most deal obsessed across the country? To find out, the team here at VegasInsider analyzed 442 keywords related to Black Friday, Cyber Monday, deals, vouchers, coupons, and discounts for each state.

To ensure the results were a fair comparison, each state’s population was considered and calculated per 100,000 residents.

With all these factors considered, we found that New Jersey is the most deal obsessed state in America with an average monthly search average per population of 128.4.

With a total of 119,480 keyword searches on average per month, the residents of New Jersey were clearly the most keen-eyed when it came to finding a steal.

Delaware ranked in a close second with an average search volume of 127.4, followed by those who live in New York with a monthly average per population of 127.3.

Top 10 Most Deal Obsessed States

Looking at the other end of the spectrum, Mississippi was ranked as the least deal obsessed state with a total score of just 76.0. 

Californians had the highest total number of keyword searches at 438,870, however they only ranked 16^th overall due to the large population within the state.

Alaska had the least amount of keyword searches with 6,650, ranking 41^st overall.

Nevada Loves a Discount

When looking at Nevada specifically, it seems the residents of the state are amongst the most deal savvy across the country.

Although Nevada ranks outside the top 10, being placed 19^th out of 50 states shows how popular finding a discount is for people. 

With a monthly search volume of 32,880, the state scored a total of 105.9 for searches per population to rank inside the top 20 deal obsessed states. 

Methodology 

We at VegasInsider conducted an in-depth analysis of Google search trends to identify the most deal-obsessed states in the U.S.

Using Google Keyword Planner, search volumes for 442 keywords related to Black Friday, Cyber Monday, deals, vouchers, coupons, and discounts were collected for each U.S. state.

To ensure fair comparisons, the total search volumes were adjusted for population size (calculated per 100,000 residents). This approach highlighted the states with the highest frequency of deal-related searches relative to their population.
