Nuggets vs Bucks

by Michael Crosson

The Doc Rivers Era in Milwaukee is off to an incredibly bumpy start. After posting an excellent record of 32-14 through the month of January, the Bucks are now 2-5 in seven games since hiring Rivers as their head coach – while ranking 22nd in offensive rating and 10th in defensive rating during that span.

With that in mind though, I’m going to cut the Bucks some slack for their early issues out of the gate. Four of their last five losses have come on the road, which includes two very tough matchups against Denver and Phoenix, and another coming by a narrow three-point margin.

However, it’s only a matter of time before the Bucks get back on track – and while a win over Charlotte is nothing to write home about, their inevitable resurgence appeared to begin in their latest affair as they ran away with a 120-84 home victory over the Hornets.

Many people have blamed Milwaukee’s recent woes on the coaching change – but all things considered, the Bucks latest struggles aren’t all that surprising. The Bucks have posted records of 22-6 at home and 12-13 on the road this season – so I’m not overly concerned with their recent skid, especially heading into Game 3 of a four-game home stand tonight.

On the other side of that same coin, Denver’s home-road splits are polarized in a similar manner. The Nuggets have posted records of 21-4 at home and 15-13 on the road this season – and such results are nothing new for this team, highlighted by Denver going 34-7 at home and 19-22 on the road last season.

I’m going to back the home underdog to win this one outright. Give me the Bucks ML tonight.

Pick: Bucks ML (+100)

Warriors vs Jazz

by Joe Nelson

Utah Jazz +1 (-108)

Utah is in the 11th position in the Western Conference standings, but they are just a half-game behind Golden State with a big opportunity Monday night. The Jazz quietly own an impressive 17-7 S/U record at home and after starting the season 7-17, Utah is 19-10 overall since mid-December.

A recent dip in results has been through a road-heavy run in the last few weeks but the Jazz have impressive home wins over Milwaukee and Oklahoma City already in February. This is the first meeting of the season between these teams with January's scheduled contest postponed and Utah hasn't played since a loss Thursday in Phoenix ahead of a key home stand with the Lakers Wednesday before another game with the Warriors.

Golden State has won six of the past seven after Saturday's dramatic one-point win over the Suns. The Warriors are facing their sixth road game already this month and the wins over Philadelphia in the recent run have come against a short-handed 76ers team for a false boost to the resume. Golden State has a solid 11-12 road record, but the Warriors are just 13-19 vs. the Western Conference.

Both teams have faced incredibly difficult schedules this season, but the Jazz have more high-end top 10 wins than the Warriors and while the Utah defense hasn't been a quality unit, the Warriors recent numbers are built on scheduling, and these are both quality offensive teams.

Utah should be in a favorable set-up in a very tough home venue to deliver a key win to continue a rise back to playoff contention. The Warriors have lost the past two games in Salt Lake City and Utah has covered in 75% of its home games this season.
