NBA Best Bets | Expert Picks (Monday, Jan. 29)

Jazz vs Nets

by Michael Crosson

Brooklyn posted an inspired start to the season, however, the Nets have officially fallen off the wagon by now. The Nets posted a solid record of 13-10 in their first 23 games, while ranking 8th in offensive rating and 19th in defensive rating during that span. Ever since that point however, the Nets have been absolutely terrible, owning a record of 5-17 in their last 22 contests, while ranking 26th in offensive rating and 17th in defensive rating during their latest stretch.

While on the other side of that same coin, Utah has seen the exact opposite situation play out so far this season. The Jazz stumbled out to a miserable 7-16 start to the season, while ranking 27th in net rating during that timeframe. However, they’ve completely flipped the script since that point, yielding a record of 17-7 in their last 24 games, while ranking 8th in net rating during that span.

This is a matchup between two teams trending in totally opposite directions. I’m going to try to ride the rave with Utah on the road tonight.

Pick: Jazz ML (-105)

Bucks vs Nuggets

by Bruce Marshall

Denver Nuggets -4 (-110)

Doc Rivers is slated to make his debut on the Bucks' bench tonight and the jury remains out on the midseason coaching switch. The first night could also be a bit of an awkward assignment especially considering Milwaukee is at Denver, which powdered the Bucks 129-106 in last year's meeting on March 26 at Ball Arena when the Joker (31 points & 11 boards) got the best of Giannis, also because he got more help from friends (like the 26 points from Jamal Murray). The schedule has broken fortuitously lately for the Bucks, who get no breaks tonight vs. a confident Nuggets bunch that just saw off the Sixers (though minus Joel Embiid) on Saturday. Play Nuggets
