The Los Angeles Clippers will play the second game of a back-to-back on Wednesday night when they head to the Bay Area to take on the Golden State Warriors.

Both teams have a winning record early in the season, and they have yet to face off. They will get awfully acquainted with each other though as the Warriors will host the Clippers on both Wednesday night and Friday night in the NBA’s condensed schedule.

Since the opener against the Lakers, the Clippers have been favored in every game thiss season. As road favorites, the club has gone 2-1 both straight up and against the spread.

However, the number has flip-flopped in this game as of Wednesday morning and Golden State is now the favorite.

Prior to this game, the Warriors were listed as underdogs in their first three games at the Chase Center.

Clippers vs. Warriors Current Form-Last Game

The Clippers got off to a great start this season. They beat the defending champion Lakers in their opener despite being short underdogs in that game, and they followed that up with an impressive road win against the Denver Nuggets.

However, LA suffered the biggest blowout in decades in its home opener. Dallas beat the Clip Show 124-73 back on December 27, racing out to an NBA-record 50-point halftime lead.

This team did a good job of putting that humiliating loss out of its memory with wins over Minnesota and Portland before the new year. The Clippers were unable to top San Antonio on Tuesday though, dropping a 116-113 decision.

They trailed by 19 points at halftime, but they were able to roar back and cut the lead to one point at the end of the third quarter before eventually falling to the Spurs. LA has only faced back-to-back spot this season and it captured a 128-105 win over Portland on Dec. 30.

Golden State was blasted in its first two games of the season. The Warriors were hammered by Brooklyn and Milwaukee, losing those games by a combined 65 points. They have since responded with wins in four of their last five games though, highlighted by a brilliant Steph Curry performance on Sunday against Portland.

Curry finished the game with a career-high 62 points in a 137-122 win for the Warriors. He went 18-31 and 8-16 from beyond the arc in the game, nearly doubling up Damian Lillard. Curry has led Golden State in scoring in each of his team’s seven games, including a 137-106 win over Sacramento on Monday night.

LA Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors Head-to-Head

  • Mar. 10, 2020 - Clippers 131 at Warriors 107, LA -12.5, Over 223
  • Jan. 10, 2020 - Clippers 109 vs. Warriors 100, LA -14.5, Under 218
  • Oct. 24, 2019 - Clippers 141 vs. Warriors 122, LA -1, OVER 228.5

We saw the Clippers easily take care of business against an injury-riddled Warriors roster the last time these teams squared off.

Golden State didn’t have Curry or Draymond Green, resulting in the Clippers leading by 34 points entering the fourth quarter.

Dragan Bender led the Warriors with 23 points on 8 of 12 shooting, while Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole were the only other Golden State players with more than 12 points.

Los Angeles had seven players score at least 10 points in the win. The early lead led to no Clipper playing more than 27 minutes, giving Kawhi Leonard and Paul George an opportunity to get a little extra rest. Leonard led the Clips with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

LA Clippers Betting Outlook

Inside the Stats (2020-2021)

  • Overall: 5-3 SU, 5-3 ATS, 5-3 O/U

The Clippers needed to shake things up after looking flat in last year’s playoffs.

Tyronn Lue replaced Doc Rivers as the team’s head coach in the offseason, and Serge Ibaka and Nicolas Batum were brought in over the summer. That has given the Clips more flexibility as this team can now go big with Ibaka and Batum.

Paul George is hoping to make amends after last year’s atrocious playoff performance. George had a postseason to forget, but he has been the Clippers’ best player through the first two weeks.

He is averaging 25.1 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 5.1 APG while shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 49.2 percent from beyond the arc. George needs to work on his turnovers though, as he is averaging 4.6 TPG.

Golden State Warriors Betting Outlook

Inside the Stats (2020-2021)

  • Overall: 4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS, 4-3 O/U

It’s hard to know what to make of Golden State. All three of the Warriors’ losses have come by at least 25 points, while three of their four wins have been by at least 10 points.

They were blown out by Eastern Conference favorites Milwaukee and Brooklyn, and all but one of their victories came against teams that missed the expanded postseason last year.

Draymond is healthy after missing the first four games of the season, giving the Warriors a spark. However, Green didn’t make a field goal in either of his first two games back on the court despite playing a total of 46 minutes. He has now played 67 minutes this season and has just six points, making one of his eight field goal attempts.

Golden State needs someone else to emerge to take the pressure off Steph Curry, but no one else has rose to the occasion. Andrew Wiggins is making a shade over 40 percent of his field goals, and Kelly Oubre Jr. had an atrocious start to the year.

Rookie center James Wiseman may eventually be the answer, but he is still developing after playing just three games with Memphis last year.

Key Injuries

LA Clippers

  • SG Jay Scrubb: Foot – Out
  • SG Paul George: Ankle – Day to Day

Golden State Warriors

  • SG Klay Thompson: Achilles – Out
  • SF Marquese Chriss: Ankle – Out
  • PF Alen Smailagic: Knee – Out

George didn’t play against San Antonio on Tuesday due to an ankle injury. He could return to the court against the Warriors on Wednesday night though, and his presence or absence will affect the line by a couple points.

Clippers vs. Warriors Prediction

This is a tricky spot for the Clippers as the second game of a back-to-back, but the Warriors aren’t a great team.

The Clips have the perimeter defenders to limit Curry from beyond the arc, and Golden State doesn’t have a reliable secondary scoring option with Thompson out.
