Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers Predictions

We’re just three weeks into the NBA regular season, and the stage is already set for the Clippers and Blazers to complete a trilogy on Tuesday night – as Portland and L. A. will square off for the third time within a 15-day period.

Portland and L. A. split their first two matchups of the season, with each squad claiming a double-digit victory on its respective home floor.

The first matchup between these teams took place at the Staples Center, and resulted in a victory for L. A., as five different Clippers’ players eclipsed double-digit scoring on the way to a 30-point victory for Ty Lue’s team – while Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined for just 32 PTS on 11-31 FG for Portland.

On the other hand, the second matchup took place in Portland, and resulted in a victory for the Blazers, as despite Paul George exploding for 42 PTS on 15-24 FG – it couldn’t make up for the rest of his team’s dismal shooting performance throughout the contest (30.2% FG, 27.2% 3FG).

I’ll lay the points with L. A. here, as the Blazers really struggled in their first handful of road matchups to start the season (0-4 SU, 0-4 ATS) – making Portland incredibly difficult to warrant siding with at the Staples Center on Tuesday night.

Portland Trail Blazers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-5
  • ATS: 4-6
  • O/U: 3-7

After getting eliminated by Denver in the first round of last year’s playoffs, the direction of the Blazers’ organization quickly reached complete ambiguity, as many believed Portland would test out the trade market with some of its most valuable assets during the offseason.

They failed to reach an agreement before the start of the season though, so it looks like the Portland is running back its same squad – which honestly, isn’t such a bad thing given the current status of the Western Conference.

Regardless of how healthy he claims to be, Damian Lillard still appears to be nursing a nagging abdominal injury that he picked up during the Tokyo Olympics, with the superstar currently averaging just 18.5 PPG on 35.1% FG and 24.7% 3FG this season – so, until Dame proves he’s back at full strength, I’d stay away from Portland for the most part.

Los Angeles Clippers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-4
  • ATS: 5-4
  • O/U: 3-6

At times, L. A. appears somewhat lost offensively without Kawhi on the floor though, considering the Clippers head into Tuesday’s contest ranked 22nd in FG% and 17th in 3P% (43.5% FG, % 3P) – which is a large step backward compared to last year’s squad that ranked 5th in FG% and 1st in 3P% (48% FG, 40.5% 3P).

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers Head-to-Head

The Blazers and Clippers split their first two matchups this season – with each squad claiming a double- digit victory on its respective home floor.

Both contests stayed comfortably under the total set for Tuesday’s affair – which is primarily due to one squad falling short of 100 points on less than 40% FG in each of the first two events.

Key Players to Watch

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers Betting Conclusion

After extending their winning streak to four games with a victory over Charlotte on Sunday (W, 120- 106), the Clippers will head into Tuesday night’s bout as narrow home favorites over the visiting Blazers – marking just the second time Portland has been an underdog all season.

I’ll lay the points with L. A. here, as Lillard averaged just 18 PPG across Portland’s four road matchups this season, which includes his 12-point performance against the Clippers back in October – indicating why I’m also backing Lillard to stay under his point-total in Tuesday’s event.
