A. opened with a lackluster 10-11 SU and 7-14 ATS skid – which was mainly attributed to growing pains associated with the offseason acquisition of Russell Westbrook.

The Lakers have maintained a similarly deficient pace since that point though, considering L. A. enters Tuesday riding a bumpy 16-22 SU and 18-20 ATS skid – despite getting tagged as favorites in 24 of those matchups.

On the other hand, the Mavericks also posted a surprisingly slow start to the season, as Dallas kicked things off with a lackluster 16-18 SU and 13-21 ATS skid – with five of those SU losses coming matchups they were favored in.

Dallas has admirably ridden the coattail of its defense through the winter months though, considering the Mavericks enter Tuesday riding an impressive 20-7 SU and 18-9 ATS run – while surrendering just 101.5 DPPG to their opponents across that timeframe.

I’ll back Dallas here, as the Mavericks are 7-2 SU and 8-1 ATS in their last nine games, while averaging 109.2 OPPG and 101.6 DPPG across that window – likely serving as a difficult task for Lakers squad that’s scored 106 PTS or less in four of their last five contests (104.6 OPPG).

There’s still plenty of time for the Lakers to turn things around and push for higher seeding; they just need to get healthy first, and ultimately, shoot the ball better, considering L. A. ranks 24^th in offensive efficiency and 12^th in scoring (1.055 OE, 110.5 OPPG) – which doesn’t bode well for a squad that also ranks 17^th in defensive efficiency (1.074 DE).
