Knicks vs. Nets Predictions

After finishing fourth in the East with a record of 41-31 SU last year, New York briefly kept that same ball rolling with another solid start to this season, as the Knicks opened with a sturdy 11-9 SU and 9-11 ATS run– which included tough victories over the Sixers (2), Bucks, Hawks, Bulls, and Lakers.

The Knicks have looked like a shell of that squad since mid-November though, considering New York enters Sunday riding a miserable 17-30 SU skid – despite getting tagged as favorites in 18 of those contests.

On the other hand, Brooklyn also barreled out to a strong start to the season, as the Nets kicked things off with an impressive 26-14 SU run – with 15 of those victories coming by eight points or more.

The Nets have been incredibly inconsistent since Kevin Durant’s latest leave of absence though, considering Brooklyn enters Sunday riding a frustrating 5-17 SU skid – while scoring just 110.2 OPPG and allowing 116.9 DPPG during that timeframe.

I’ll back the Nets here, as despite the absence of Kyrie Irving in Sunday’s matchup, Brooklyn has become a far deeper squad since the trade deadline with supporting cast upgrades that include Seth Curry, Goran Dragic, and Andre Drummond – which should provide enough offensive firepower to take down an ailing Knicks squad.

New York Knicks Betting Analysis

  • SU: 28-39
  • ATS: 31-36
  • O/U: 34-33

The Knicks seemingly caught the entire conference by surprise last season, as New York finished fourth in the East with a sturdy record of 41-31 SU, before inevitably getting outmatched by Atlanta from top-to-bottom in a quick five-game set to open the playoffs.

The Knicks haven’t caught anybody off guard this season though, considering New York ranks 12th in the East straight-up and 11th against the spread with records of 28-39 SU and 31-36 ATS – despite getting tagged as favorites in 32 matchups over the course of this season.

Brooklyn Nets Betting Analysis

  • SU: 34-33
  • ATS: 27-38-2
  • O/U: 34-32-1

After falling to Milwaukee in a thrilling seven-game conference semi-final set, the Nets bounced back with an excellent start to this season, as Brooklyn cruised into January boasting a 26-14 SU record – yet still ranked near the bottom of the barrel ATS at that point with a record of 17-22-1 ATS.

The Nets completely fell apart during KD’s latest absence though, considering Brooklyn enters Sunday riding a miserable 5-17 SU skid, which includes a 3-9 SU tally in matchups with Kyrie – and a 2-8 SU mark in matchups without him.

The Nets are 2-7 ATS in their last nine matchups against New York. (AP)

The Nets swept a three-game regular-season set against the Knicks last year, with all three matchups soaring over the total at an average of 226.7 PPG. The Nets are also 2-0 SU against New York this season, with both matchups still going over the number at an average of 219.5 PPG.

Key Players to Watch

  • NYK: RJ Barrett - SG (19.2 PPG, 5.9 REB, 2.9 AST)
  • NYK: Julius Randle - PF (20.4 PPG, 10 REB, 5.2 AST)
  • BKN: Kevin Durant - SF (29 PPG, 7.4 REB, 5.8 AST)
  • BKN: Seth Curry - SG (15.2 PPG, 3.3 REB, 3.9 AST)

Knicks vs. Nets Betting Conclusion

After posting back-to-back road wins over the Hornets and Sixers, the Nets return home for Sunday’s contest as short favorites over the Knicks at Barclays Center – marking the ninth straight game New York has been an underdog in.

I’ll back Brooklyn here, as the Knicks are 5-15 SU and 8-12 ATS in their last 20 games, while tallying just 110.1 OPPG and allowing 112.8 DPPG across that window – setting the stage for another unfavorable matchup against a Nets squad that’s scored 120+ PTS in four of their last seven contests (117 OPPG).
