LOS ANGELES LAKERS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS BETTING PREDICTION

Well, the Russell Westbrook Era is officially over in Los Angeles, as the Lakers finally decided to press the reset button right before the trade deadline by sending Westbrook to Utah in exchange for D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasely, and Jarred Vanderbilt in a three-team deal with the Timberwolves and Jazz.

At this point, I think it’s safe to say that Los Angeles was probably better off prior to the acquisition of Westbrook. Before the trade, the Lakers won the 2020 NBA Finals, and then the year following, they still managed to reach the postseason, despite LeBron James and Anthony Davis participating in less than 45 contests apiece.

People usually choose to belittle the merits of L. A.’s neutral site championship in the bubble, but that’s beyond the point. Regardless of how you slice it, this was once a very good team at some point under a similar structure, and truth be told, they aren’t all that far removed from that original core either.

Don’t blame Westbrook. The Lakers’ shooting woes didn’t exactly come out of left field following the acquisition of the former MVP winner. Even during their title run, the current iteration of this Lakers’ squad has always struggled from three-point territory. So, the fact that the bottom fell out in the immediate aftermath of trading for a guy that shoots four or five longballs per game at a 29% clip, shouldn’t come as a total surprise.

Where does that leave them now, though? The Lakers have a dynamic duo capable of standing toe-to-toe with pretty much any given team’s best two players, but they’ve never been surrounded by the right complementary pieces, and following their latest moves, they still aren’t.

The Lakers appear to be in a better place than they were yesterday, but make no mistake about it, they certainly aren’t out of the woods yet. This team still can’t shoot. So, even without Steph Curry, I still think they come up short in Saturday’s matchup against a Warriors squad that’s knocked down 39% of their 44 three-point attempts per game at Chase Center so far this season, resulting in a league-best record of 21-6 at home.

Score Prediction: Warriors 127, Lakers 116
Best Bet: Warriors -3.5 (-110)
