Seattle Seahawks vs Detroit Lions Odds

The Lions had plenty to celebrate in Week 1 and are Week 2 favorites. (Gettty)
  • Opening point spread: Lions -4.5
  • Opening moneyline: Lions -240/Seahawks +190
  • Opening total: Over/Under 50.5 points scored
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET Sunday (FOX)

UPDATE 10 A.M. ET SUNDAY: With kickoff three hours out, Detroit is a 4.5-point favorite at BetMGM, with the number stagnant since Thursday. Since Friday, spread action has shifted significantly toward the Lions, at 2/1 tickets and money.

Detroit is taking the third-most spread tickets/second-most spread money among all teams on the NFL Week 3 Sunday docket.

The total opened at 50.5, fell to 47 by Tuesday and has been painted at 47 since then. But tickets and money are in the 3/1 range on the Over.

UPDATE 6 P.M. ET FRIDAY: BetMGM opened the Lions -5.5 and initially nudged up to -6 Monday afternoon. On Wednesday morning, the line returned to -5.5, then Thursday morning went to -4.5, where it sits now.

It's two-way spread play, with 55% of tickets/51% of money on the home favorite Detroit.

BetMGM's total dropped from 50.5 to 47 by Tuesday afternoon and hasn't moved since. The Over is getting 58% of tickets, while 56% of money is on the Under.

UPDATE 11 P.M. ET SUNDAY: In Week 1, Detroit picked up right where it left off last season. The Lions, catching 4 points at Kansas City in the Thursday night game, pulled off a 21-20 outright victory.

Detroit (1-0 SU and ATS) finished last season on an 8-2 SU/9-1 ATS spree. So the Lions are now 9-2 SU/10-1 ATS in their last 11 outings.

Seattle, on the other hand, laid a complete egg in Week 1. The Seahawks (0-1 SU and ATS) closed as 4.5-point home faves vs. the Rams and lost outright 30-13.

"Our lookahead line before [Week 1] Thursday night was Detroit -3. But the combination of Detroit's excellent performance in Kansas City and Seattle's less-than-inspiring effort against the Rams resulted in a pretty significant jump," Michaelson said, noting the Lions reposted at -4.5 tonight and are already up another point. "We have it 5.5, and it may climb higher. The hype around the Lions is as big as it's been since the Barry Sanders days, when I wasn't even alive.

"I would be surprised if any public player is in a hurry to bet the Seahawks on the road, after they looked so bad today at home."

Seahawks vs Lions Pick, Prediction

Action Network NFL betting expert Brandon Anderson offers this prediction:

These teams had opposing Week 1 experiences. The Lions got a marquee win on Opening Night over the Chiefs while the Seahawks got blown out by the Rams, pushing this line from Lions -3.5 to -6.

Seattle didn't just lose the game against LA. The Seahawks also lost both starting tackles and had to coax 41-year-old Jason Peters out of retirement this week. The secondary is still banged up, too.

These teams played a barn burner last October, with Seattle outlasting Detroit 48-45 as both teams ran up over 500 yards of offense.

This is a classic overreaction to Week 1. Detroit didn't deserve to win but got lucky, and Seattle played a tight game against a division rival that got away late. Road underdogs off a double-digit loss are 18-3 ATS (86%) in Week 2 since 2014, and there are a barrage of other Week 2 trends backing Seattle too.

Pete Carroll is also outstanding after a loss (61% ATS) and as an underdog (60%). It's not like the Seahawks are missing All-Pro tackles, and the Lions were a bottom-five DVOA defense last season. So thank you for the free Week 1 overreaction points; play the number.

Pick: Seahawks +5 (-110)
