Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings Predictions

Who doesn't love a good ole fashioned divisional rivalry game? While it won't be freezing and snowy, I’m still expecting a good game between these two teams. So far this season the Vikings have been bugged by recurring injuries to their star running back Dalvin Cook who is committed to playing through injury.

The Lions are not suffering any major injuries, but have struggled so far this season and are currently without a win. Vegas seemingly has a lot of confidence in the Vikings, as giving any team 10 points in a divisional meeting is not common.

Detroit Lions Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 0-4
  • ATS: 2-2
  • O/U: 2-2
  • ATS - Home: 2-0
  • ATS - Away: 0-2

Jared Goff won't win you any amazing games in spectacular fashion but he's kept this Lions team in every game. His average depth of target is towards the bottom of the league in terms of quarterback but taking the safe and measured approach seems to really work for this team. With weapons like Deandre Swift and TJ Hockenson they tend to utilize these guys in short yardage situations and take occasional deep shots with Cephus and Raymond.

On defense this unit is remarkably unspectacular but hasn't been as bad as expected. While it's hard to give a coach too much credit it really does seem like Dan Campbell has these guys fired up every single week. They aren't the most talented team in the world but they should be contending in almost every game.

I think the oven is the place to be here. Neither of these teams have proved they can play much defense. I think the Vikings go up early on and the Lions are forced to play catch up and continue to keep the game close like they have all season long.

Minnesota Vikings Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 1-3
  • ATS: 2-2
  • O/U: 2-2
  • ATS - Home: 1-1
  • ATS - Away: 1-1

The Vikings have a great offense. With a running back rotation of Cook and Alexander Mattison they can pretty confidently run on most teams. At receiver this team is highly concentrated with top receivers Adam Theilen and Jefferson who complement each other very well. Detroit has one of the weaker defenses in the league and the Vikings are in a good position to take advantage of that.

I'm a bit surprised that this game has the Vikings as 10 point favorites. They are a 1 win team and are 1-3 against the spread this season. The Lions have shown they are fighters this season and with the Vikings lack of defensive talent I think they should be able to stay in this one. I think the Vikings do end up winning this ballgame, especially if Cook can stay healthy but this line should be much closer to -6.

Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings Betting Conclusion

Props in this game are not fully out yet, but Justin Jefferson is very tempting. His longest reception at 26.5 and yards at 82.5 have been very profitable this year. Hes 2/2 for both of them in his career against the Lions, and they really don't have anyone to cover him right now. The less Cook plays, the better this is for Jefferson as well as he already commands a huge market share but it could get even bigger.

Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings Trends

  • Minnesota has won seven straight games when facing Detroit.
  • Minnesota has failed to cover the spread in six straight games when playing as the favorite.
  • Minnesota has gone OVER the point total in six of its last seven home games when playing as the favorite.
