The Green Bay Packers will visit the Cincinnati Bengals for a highly anticipated inter-conference bout on Sunday afternoon, as quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Joe Burrow will be hoping to lead their respective squads to a fourth victory after posting a 3-1 start to the new season.

After a long, uneasy offseason for Green Bay, Rodgers and company stumbled out to a somewhat worrisome start in Week 1, as the Packers squared off against the Saints at a neutral site to open the new season – and got thumped by a stunning 35-point margin (L, 38-3).

Apparently, Green Bay just needed a week to knock the rust off though, considering the Packers immediately bounced back with a trio of victories over the Lions, 49ers, and Steelers – while averaging 30.7 points scored and 20.7 points allowed across their latest three-game window.

On the other hand, the Bengals have also enjoyed a solid start to the new season, highlighted by Cincinnati’s victories over the Vikings, Steelers, and Jaguars – with their only loss coming on the road in Chicago.

I’ll lay the points with the Packers here, as the Bengals’ three victories have come against squads that share a combined record of 2-10 on the year – so, Burrow and company might be in for a rude awakening when Green Bay’s high-powered offense comes to town this Sunday afternoon.

The Packers travel to Cincinnati as a three-point favorite over the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium – which despite sitting at 3-1 SU, marks the fourth time Zac Taylor’s team has been listed as an underdog this season.

The total for Sunday afternoon’s matchup sits just north of OU 50 at most shops, which marks the highest number set for a Bengals’ game so far this season.

After juggling several off-the-field issues throughout the offseason, the Packers went into their season- opener against New Orleans straight-up unprepared for what Sean Payton’s crew had in store – considering Green Bay mustered up just three points on 229 total yards during their blowout loss to the Saints in Week 1 (L, 38-3).

In Week 2 though, the oddsmakers elected to pretend Green Bay’s first loss never happened – as the Packers still entered their second matchup of the year favored by nearly two touchdowns over the Lions at Lambeau Field (GB -12).

Personally, I agree with that notion, as the Packers’ head-scratching loss in Week 1 appeared to occur as the immediate aftermath following Green Bay’s long offseason filled with overarching organizational tension – and after bouncing back with three straight wins, the Packers probably should be favored over this young Cincinnati squad.

The Bengals shouldn’t be faulted for their success against subpar opponents leading up to this point, as Cincinnati has simply taken advantage of its league given-schedule through the first four weeks of the season – which consisted of the Vikings, Bears, Steelers, and Jaguars, who currently share a combined record of 4-12 on the year.

It’s hard to put much faith behind the Bengals’ sturdy 3-1 record though, as two of Cincy’s matchups ended up going down to the wire – and Evan McPherson was forced to hit a pair of walk-off field-goals to seal wins over Minnesota and Jacksonville.

Cincinnati has a bright future ahead, as Burrow and the Bengals’ young offense should continue improving in the weeks and years to come – but in my opinion, they still aren’t quite ready to consider in matchups against Super Bowl contenders like the Packers.

After failing to cover the spread at home against Jacksonville last Sunday (JAX +7), the Bengals head into Week 5 as short home underdogs against the visiting Packers (CIN +3) – marking the first time Green Bay has been favored in an actual away game this year (NO – Neutral).

I like Green Bay here, as I expect the Bengals defense to start a little slow start after matching up with mediocre offenses through the first four weeks – which is why I’m also taking Aaron Jones’ rushing yards over in this Sunday’s event.
