Tennessee Titans vs. Los Angeles Rams Predictions

After stumbling out to a bumpy 2-2 start with losses to the Jets and Cardinals, Tennessee finally caught its stride in the early stages of October, as the Titans blew out Jacksonville 37-19 in Week 5 – which quickly snowballed into upset victories over the Bills (+6), Chiefs (+4), and Colts (+3) across their ensuing three affairs.

The Titans’ worst nightmare became a painful reality this past Sunday though, as All-Pro RB Derrick Henry exited with an apparent foot issue during Tennessee’s thrilling overtime win over the Colts – ultimately landing Henry on IR with a somewhat ambiguous timetable for return.

On the other hand, the Rams didn’t take much time settling in with newly acquired signal-callerMatthew Stafford, as Sean McVay’s squad kicked off the season with wins in three of their first four games – with L. A.’s only loss across that window coming to the Cardinals (L, 37-20).

Since losing to Arizona though, the Rams have played excellent on both sides of the ball, highlighted by Stafford and company averaging 32.5 PPG across consecutive victories over the Seahawks, Giants, Lions, and Texans – and the L. A. defense allowing just 17.3 PPG across that same timeframe.

I’ll lay the points with L. A. here, as the absence of Henry removes an overwhelming majority of the Titans’ offensive versatility – and while Tennessee still stands as a solid team without him, I think they’ll struggle against powerhouses like the Rams.

Tennessee Titans Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 6-2
  • ATS: 6-2
  • O/U: 5-3
  • ATS - Home: 3-1
  • ATS - Away: 3-1

After placing Henry on IR Monday, Tennessee might be the toughest squad to evaluate heading into Week 9, considering Ryan Tannehill handed the ball off to his All-Pro running-back 28+ times in six of the Titans’ last seven games – and I doubt backup RB Jeremy McNichols will assume a workload of such magnitude.

Tennessee’s passing game is still solid though, considering the Titans rank 11th in yards per pass attempt and 17th in completion percentage – but we might see those numbers take a significant dip with the absence of Henry’s threatening play-action presence.

Los Angeles Rams Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 7-1
  • ATS: 4-4
  • O/U: 5-2-1
  • ATS - Home: 2-2
  • ATS - Away: 2-2

When a team makes an offseason acquisition for a quarterback, and immediately thrusts him into action Week 1, it typically takes a few weeks to settle into an offensive rhythm – but that couldn’t be further from the truth for Stafford and the Rams.

Personally, I envisioned the Rams winning games early in the year through stellar defensive play. It turns out though, L. A.’s offense ended up falling under some extensive pressure out of the gate, considering the Rams averaged 28.8 PPG across Weeks 1 through 4 – while surrendering 24.75 PPG across that same window.

The Rams’ defense has bounced back emphatically across their latest four-game stretch (17.3 PPG, 9 TO) – which has quickly elevated L. A. into legitimate contender territory within the NFC.

Tennessee Titans vs. Los Angeles Rams Betting Conclusion

After extending their winning streak to four last Sunday, the Rams will enter Week 9 favored by roughly a touchdown over the visiting Titans – marking the fourth straight game Tennessee has been an underdog in.

I’ll lay the points with L. A. here, as the Rams are averaging 32.5 PPG across their current winning streak – and I doubt the Titans will match a similar production level with Henry sidelined – so I’m also backing Rams’ RB Darrell Henderson to make it six-of-eight games with a touchdown this year.
