Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Washington Football Team Predictions

Both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Football Team are coming off byes. Tampa Bay is 6-2 and has a very good chance of repeating as Super Bowl champions though, while Washington is 2-6 and already looking ahead to draft position. Washington’s only two wins this season came against the Giants and Falcons, so they are double-digit underdogs this week.

Tampa Bay went into Washington and beat this team in the Wild Card Round last year, but it wasn’t pretty. The Buccaneers were only up by two points entering the fourth quarter, as Taylor Heinicke proved up to the challenge. It won’t be as competitive this time though, as the Buccaneers are hungry for a win after their disappointing loss to New Orleans two weeks ago.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 6-2
  • ATS: 3-5
  • O/U: 5-3
  • ATS - Home: 3-1
  • ATS - Away: 0-4

Tom Brady is one of the front-runners to be named NFL MVP this season. Brady has been sharp for the Buccaneers, completing 67.3% of his passes for 7.7 YPA with 25 touchdowns and five interceptions. The GOAT is still playing at a high level despite being 44 years old, and that makes Tampa Bay a threat to repeat.

If Antonio Brown can stay healthy, the Buccaneers could have three 1,000-yard receivers. Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are well on pace to finish north of the milestone, and Brown has 418 yards and four touchdowns in just five games. Brown and Rob Gronkowski were both ruled out of Sunday’s game though.

The run game has helped take the pressure off Brady although the Buccaneers are averaging just over 95 YPG on the ground with Leonard Fournette seeing the bulk of the carries.

Tampa Bay is hoping that this secondary can get healthy again soon. Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting are still on injured reserve, but there is a chance that both players are activated prior to this game.

Washington Football Team Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 1-6
  • ATS: 1-7
  • O/U: 4-4
  • ATS - Home: 0-4
  • ATS - Away: 1-3

Heinicke has been serviceable in place of the injured Ryan Fitzpatrick. Heinicke flashed last season, so Ron Rivera decided to see what he had with the young quarterback after Fitzpatrick was injured in Week 1. His recent performance hasn’t been great though, as Heinicke has thrown six interceptions in the last four games.

The best receiver on the team is Terry McLaurin. He should have his third straight season with at least 900 yards despite being the only real option on Washington. Running back J.D. McKissic is the second leading receiver, and he is used equally as a runner and receiver with 32 runs and 33 receptions this season.

Washington has run the ball pretty well. The team is averaging 4.6 YPC and 118.1 YPG on the ground, as Heinicke is a good scrambler and Antonio Gibson and McKissic are each averaging at least 4.0 YPC.

The defense has done a decent job of stopping the run. However, the secondary has been exposed as the pass rush is not getting to quarterbacks as was expected. Washington used a ton of draft capital on the defensive line, but this front four ranks outside the top half of the league in sack rate despite having Chase Young, Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Montez Sweat.

The Buccaneers have gone UNDER the point total in four of their last five games after losing the game prior. (AP)
