San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Predictions

San Francisco will take on Jacksonville on a short week's rest after a dominating Monday night performance defeating the Rams, 31-10. There’s not much history between the two teams, as they have only faced five times since Jacksonville became an expansion team in 1995. Their last meeting was in 2017 with the 49ers winning, 44-33.

Jacksonville is still trying to find its identity this year with a rookie head coach and quarterback. While their defense has stepped up in the past couple of weeks, the offense has looked miserable. In the past three weeks the offense has put up scores of 17, six, and seven with a 1-2 record SU and 2-1 ATS. Jacksonville ranks 31 st in points per game averaging just 16.6 per contest while the defense is allowing 25.8, which ranks 27th in the NFL.

The 49ers look to keep their season alive as they are still right in the mix for an NFC wild card berth. They’re currently a half game behind the New Orleans Saints for the third spot. The Niners had a rocky start to the season, but looked very good against L.A. Now the question is, can they maintain that level of play? If the answer is yes, then they have the weapons to not only win this game, but also make a run into the playoffs.

This is a huge game for the 49ers to take advantage of a weak Jaguars team. However, Jacksonville has stayed competitive throughout the season, don’t sleep on them by any means.

San Francisco 49ers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 4-5
  • ATS: 3-6
  • O/U: 5-4
  • ATS - Home: 1-4
  • ATS - Away: 2-2

The 49ers had not looked like themselves up until their week nine Monday night win. They returned to running the football and controlling the clock, which is what they do best. The defense allowed just 10 points to a Rams team that is averaging 27 ppg.

It was an all-around dominating performance for a team looking to gain momentum into the ladder half of the season. San Francisco is 3-6 ATS this season with a 2-2 ATS road record. After a tough 30-28 loss to the Packers in week three, the 49ers lost and failed to cover in their next three games. During that Packers loss, the 49ers had a 28-27 lead with just under 30 seconds left.

With no timeouts, Rodgers took the Packers down the field and into field goal range to win the game. The 49ers look like they may have finally found their stride again, wining and covering in two of their last three games.

In order to cover, San Francisco will need to have a balanced attack on offense and need to stop the run on defense. They currently rank 23rd in opponents rush yards allowed per game and will be facing a Jaguars team that ranks 11th in rush yards per game at 119.

Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 2-7
  • ATS: 4-5
  • O/U: 2-7
  • ATS - Home: 2-3
  • ATS - Away: 2-2

The Jaguars are coming off of a close 23-17 road loss to the Colts. They’ve remained competitive all year and managed to cover in four of their nine games thus far. The most impressive game being week nine against the Buffalo, where they won, covered, and allowed the Bills just six points on offense.

Jacksonville is 2-3 ATS this season as a home underdog. Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer are a work in progress to say the least. Lawrence has under performed this season, throwing for 8 TDs (T-25th) and 9 INTs (T-29th) while earning a QBR of 34.9(25th). He simply needs to play better if the Jaguars want to see any kind of success during the rest of the season. The defense has not been much better, allowing 366 YPG (20th), 25.8 PPG (27th), 0.6 takeaways (32nd), and 1.8 sacks per game (28th).

Lawrence and the offense need to step it up. Look for them to favor the run against a vulnerable San Francisco run defense. The Jaguars defense will need to put pressure on Jimmy G to try and create a turnover. It could be the difference maker in this one.

San Franciso has failed to cover the spread in six of its last nine games. (AP)

San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Conclusion

The Jaguars have looked slightly better the past two weeks from a defensive viewpoint, but the offense has looked terrible. They need to play better for them to stand a chance in this one. The 49ers looked dominant on Monday night and may have found the momentum they need. Now is not the time for them to take their foot off the gas with the tight NFC playoff picture looming.

I like San Francisco to win and cover the spread in this one all the way to -7. They’re in no position to overlook this game, and the momentum gained from Monday night should carry over to Sunday. Bettors should keep an eye on the total rush yard player prop for James Robinson (Jaguars RB) who is averaging just under 60 yards per game. Against a 49ers team that struggles defending the run, I think there is value betting the over up to 70 yds.
