NFL Week 3 Rewind

It was another NFL weekend, and another series of UNDER results. For totals, the UNDER went 9-6 with Monday's Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants game pending on Monday night.

BIGGEST BAD BEAT OF THE WEEK

It wasn't a textbook bad beat, but anyone who bet the OVER (45.5) in the Bengals-Jets game certainly deserved a much better fate.

We had a total of 20 points in the first quarter alone, while Cincinnati led 20-9 at halftime. OVER bettors certainly looked well on their way. We had another 10 points in the third quarter, and at 39 total points through 45 minutes, just one lone touchdown would've helped inch the OVER across the finish line.

Instead, the Bengals and Jets turned the offensive spigot completely off in the fourth quarter.

The Jets were actually driving earlier in the final quarter, and with around 10 minutes remaining in regulation, and the Jets are the Cincinnati 25, QB Joe Flacco fumbled after a hit from DE Trey Hendrickson, and the Bengals recovered. No field goal. No touchdown. No points at all.

The Bengals then drove it down the field for a 41-yard field goal attempt from PK Evan McPherson with just over two minutes to play. He missed the field goal.

Flacco and the Jets then had a 7-play, 52-yard drive, getting it into the Cincinnati red zone. It didn't end well. Flacco looked for rookie RB Breece Hall on a pass play, but instead, SS Jessie Bates stepped in and picked it off at the Cincinnati 4, and that was that. No points in the fourth, and UNDER bettors dodged not one, not two, but three bullets.

COVER KINGS

DOLPHINS, FALCONS, LIONS IMPROVE TO 3-0 ATS

The Miami Dolphins picked up the 21-19 victory at home against the Buffalo Bills, winning outright as short 'dogs. Miami improved to 2-0 SU/ATS at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, and 3-0 SU/ATS overall on the season, including 2-0 SU/ATS against divisional opponents.

Miami is now on to Cincinnati, and it's a quick turnaround with a Thursday Night Football showing. The Dolphins have won the past two meetings, but both of those meetings were in South Florida. The Bengals won the two most recent meetings in Southwest Ohio at Paycor Stadium and the Bengals covered each of those outings as well.

The Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions also improved to 3-0 ATS in Week 3, joining the club with the Dolphins.

ALWAYS BET ON BLACK?

RAIDERS, SAINTS ONLY 0-3 ATS TEAMS

The black-clad Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints are the only teams in the NFL recording ATS losses in each of their first three games this season. The New England Patriots also have failed to record a cover this season, but it pushed at most shops in Week 2 with a 3-point road win in Pittsburgh, giving them an 0-2-1 ATS mark. The Raiders and Saints meet in New Orleans in Week 8.

FIRST-PLACE JAGUARS?

JAGUARS LEAD AFC SOUTH

The Jacksonville Jaguars entered Week 3 as the only team in the AFC South Division to record a victory, and it maintains its grasp of first place in the division for at least one more week following a convincing 38-10 road win against the Los Angeles Chargers.

A lot of talking heads were pumping the tires of the Bolts, talking them up as a potential Super Bowl representative for the AFC. But the Bolts are now just 1-2 SU through the first three games, and QB Justin Herbert was banged up. But, we're still talking about the Jaguars, who had lost 18 consecutive road games.

QB Trevor Lawrence had lost his first nine road games before the breakthrough win. Oddly enough, in 1999 it was then-Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning winning his first road game against the Chargers after losing nine in a row on the road to open his NFL career.

There were some eyebrows raised at the season win total for the Jaguars being set at 6.5 games, but now they're just five games away from cashing an OVER. Who had Jacksonville going 2-1 through the first three games? Anyone? Anyone?

AFC EAST UNDERS

ALL FOUR AFC EAST TEAMS 1-2 O/U

The Bills and Dolphins played a low-scoring game in Week 3, hitting the UNDER. The Dolphins also played a low-scoring game in Week 1 against the Patriots in the South Florida heat, cashing the UNDER. The UNDER is 2-0 in two AFC East Divisional matchups, and all four teams in the division have posted just one OVER with two UNDER results to date.

BAY CITY UNDERS

GREEN BAY, TAMPA BAY 0-3 O/U

The Packers outlasted the Buccaneers by a 14-12 count at Raymond James Stadium, and the UNDER is now 3-0 for both Green Bay and Tampa Bay this season. The San Francisco 49ers, hailing from the Bay Area, also cashed the UNDER in the Sunday night game in Denver, and the UNDER is 3-0 for the 49ers, too.

There are no bays in Cincinnati or Indianapolis, but the Bengals and Colts have also each cashed the UNDER at a 3-0 clip through three games.
