The dust has finally settled following a long three weeks of playoff theatrics, and in the aftermath of all the drama, the top seed from each conference remains standing, which marks the first time a pair of No. 1 seeds have squared off in the Super Bowl since Philly’s win over New England back in 2017.

Last year, the Eagles snuck into the playoffs by a razor thin margin at 9-8, however, the overall result of their campaign certainly doesn’t tell the full story, considering they opened last season with a lackluster 3-6 skid, and then finished it off with an solid 6-2 run in order to punch a ticket to the postseason.

The NFC East had a much easier schedule this year, though, having drawn matchups against the entire NFC North and AFC South, and as a result, the Eagles’ dominance has been consistently belittled throughout their campaign. But make no mistake, the Birds have posted an impressive record of 21-6 since last November, and such a high rate of success is nothing to scoff at.

The Chiefs wield far more postseason experience heading into this matchup. Andy Reid just coached in his 10th conference championship game, and Patrick Mahomes is about to appear in his third Super Bowl in just his fifth year as the Chiefs’ starter. So, you would think that Kansas City stands as the more comfortable challenger entering this year’s title game, but for a variety of reasons, that’s simply not the case.

This Chiefs' squad has all the playoff experience in the world, but they hardly have any rings to show for it. Back in his days with Philly, Reid led the Birds to five NFC Championship Games, and posted a record of 1-4 in those matchups, which inevitably led to his dismissal, and a transition to Kansas City.

For the most part, though, Reid has been playing the same old tune for the past half-decade in Kansas City. The Chiefs have posted an incredible regular season mark of 64-18 since handing the reins to Mahomes back in 2018, while also accumulating an impressive playoff record of 10-3 during that span, however, it’s all equated to just one Super Bowl win.

It’s no coincidence that the Chiefs have reached five straight conference championship games, and at this point, Andy Reid’s 5-9 record in playoff matchups following the Divisional Round doesn’t seem like much of a coincidence either. 

Regardless of how you slice it, though, both teams have a puncher’s chance at winning this contest, but given the Chiefs’ laundry list of health issues, and Reid’s long history of shortcomings on the big stage, the Eagles are probably your best bet in this one.
