The Florida Panthers are in the Eastern Conference finals, after bouncing Boston in six games. Florida won all three road games against the Bruins and they're now up 1-0 on the New York Rangers.

After knocking out Boston, the Panthers were +230 favorites in BetMGM's odds to win the Stanley Cup. Ahead of Game 2 against New York, Florida is into +160.

Yet somehow, Florida continues to fly under the radar, dodging bettors' attention.

"The Panthers are the ideal outcome for the book. By far our best result," BetMGM trader Christian Cipollini. "Florida never takes any bets. The Panthers were one of our best results last year and stay that way this year. We'll be rooting for them to come out of the East."

Liability Leaders

When factoring both digital betting (mobile/online) and retail betting, there are two teams BetMGM is aiming to avoid in the Stanley Cup odds market.

"The Rangers and Oilers are both still a problem, close to an equal problem for each team. Game-by-game, these two teams will take the most bets," Cipollini said. "We're rooting for the Panthers and the Stars."

But there's a flip side to New York or Edmonton – or both – getting eliminated in the conference finals: Handle for the Stanley Cup Finals could drop.

"It's a bit of a give-and-take. If one of them advance, it probably means we lost on their series markets," Cipollini said. "But if those two teams advance, it would for sure generate more handle and action. I'd imagine a Rangers-Oilers Cup Final would take significantly more handle than Panthers-Stars would."

Edmonton leads Dallas 1-0 in the Western Conference finals and is the +200 second choice in BetMGM's Stanley Cup futures odds. New York is +600, last among the four remaining teams.

Star Power

In the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Dallas Stars knocked out the past two Stanley Cup champions. Dallas topped 2023 champion Vegas in seven games in Round 1, then beat 2022 champ Colorado in six games.

But as noted above, the Stars trail the Oilers 1-0 in the West finals, losing Game 1 at home 3-2 in double overtime. Dallas is the +400 third choice in Stanley Cup odds, and BetMGM wouldn't mind a Dallas championship.

"Dallas is a good outcome, a winning outcome for the book. From a futures standpoint, Stars-Panthers is the ideal [final], but would have lower handle," Cippolini said.
