NHL Betting Odds & Preview for Monday – Golden Knights at Oilers

The Vegas Golden Knights (38-24-8) continue their road trip against the Edmonton Oilers (37-24-8) at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for a giant Pacific Division clash. The Golden Knights have 84 points, while the Oilers have 82 points, with Edmonton holding one game in hand. Needless to say, this is a titanic battle to kick off the new week.

The last time these teams met, G Marc-Andre Fleury posted a shutout in a 3-0 win Feb. 26 at T-Mobile Arena, beating G Mikko Koskinen. On Nov. 23, also at T-Mobile, Fleury and the Knights were doubled up 4-2, as G Mike Smith took care of business against Fleury. Newcomer G Robin Lehner has not faced the Oilers as a member of the Golden Knights, but he did allow four goals on 30 shots in a 5-3 loss in Edmonton on Feb. 11 with the Chicago Blackhawks, so he's unlikely to be tabbed as starter.

Golden Knights at Oilers Betting Odds Overview

The Golden Knights are rather middling on offense, ranking 15th with 3.1 goals per game, even though they take more shots than anyone in the NHL (34.3). The Knights also rank ninth on the power play at 21.3 percent. Defensively, VGK has allowed 3.0 goals per game to rank 13th defensively, and they're third in shots against (29.5). Their penalty kill has been a problem, ranking just 26th in the NHL at 77.0 percent. Special teams have been the key for the Oilers, as they rank first on the power play at 29.6 percent, while checking in second in the league on the kill at 84.8 percent.

Golden Knights Current Form

The Golden Knights have posted seven consecutive victories against teams with a winning record, and they're 10-2 in the past 12 games, too. Playing in the second end of back-to-back situations hasn't fazed the red-hot Knights lately, as they have cashed in six of their past seven on the second end of a back-to-back. However, VGK is just 9-24 in the past 33 as an underdog, and 7-22 in the previous 29 as a road 'dog.

Oilers Current Form

The Oilers have picked up victories in four of the past five games overall, and they're a solid 4-1 in the past five as a home favorite. Edmonton is also a very impressive 12-5 across their past 17 against teams with a winning overall record.

Golden Knights to Watch

C William Karlsson has done a good job lately, as Wild Bill has managed a goal, three assist and a plus-2 rating (or 1.33 points per game) across the past threee contests. LW Max Pacioretty scored his team-leading 32nd goal on the power play in Sunday's 5-3 win in Calgary. He has rolled up 11 goals and 18 points with a plus-8 rating, three PPG and four game-winning tallies across the past 15. D Nick Holden had a multi-point game Sunday, going for a goal and an assist.

Not everyone is hot in gold and black. C Chandler Stephenson has posted just one assist and a minus-1 rating with eight shots on goal across the past four. LW Jonathan Marchessault has cooled off, posting just one goal and an even rating across the past four. RWs Reilly Smith and G Paul Stastny are also ice-cold, each posting just one assist in the past four. Newcomer D Alec Martinez is good for just one helper and eight SOG in the past five.

Oilers to Watch

All-Star C Leon Draisaitl is always hot, but he has been even more so lately. He has six goals and 11 points with a plus-6 rating and 17 SOG across his past five games, almost single-handedly carrying the Oilers to the top. C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is good for three goals and 10 points with a plus-5 rating and 13 SOG across the past five outings. And, of course, C Connor McDavid is on fire lately, going for three goals, 12 assists and a plus-3 rating with 28 SOG across his past eight games.

The key to the success for Edmonton this season is secondary and tertiary scoring this season, something which has been absent in the past. D Darnell Nurse has six helpers in his past four with a plus-1 rating. LW Josh Archibald has rolled up two goals, four points and a plus-2 rating over the past four outings. LW Alex Chiasson recently reached double digits in goals, and he has two goals and three points with a plus-2 rating in the past three outings.

And Koskinen has been white-hot in the crease lately, turning aside 97 of the past 99 shots he has faced in the past three outings, regaining his form after a slow start.

Golden Knights at Oilers Selection Summary

The home season has posted four victories in the past five meetings in this series, while the under has hit in four of the past five. It's been all about the under lately for the Knights, going 4-1-1 in the past six overall, thanks mostly due to solid goaltending. Keep in mind that they're playing in their fourth game in six days, so fatigue could be an issue. The under is 6-1 in their past seven in a 4-in-6 (four games in six days) situation. While the over is 8-3-1 in Edmonton's past 12 as a favorite, the under is 6-2 in Edmonton's past six against winning teams.
