Calgary's not officially out of the playoff race yet thanks to Montreal losing in regulation last night, but three losses in their last four sealed the Flames fate in reality.
While there is always the chance that Calgary holds onto hope and lives up to this chalky price against a bad team, playing their second in as many nights, I'm not interested in laying it. Ottawa's been playing much better hockey of late, but they are still 0-9 SU this year in the second game of a back-to-back as well.
This leads me to back the high side of the total here, as neither side can really be trusted, and the scenario of it being a likely meaningless contest doesn't hurt that idea either. The first five meetings of the year between these two all had at least six goals scored, and this game should revert back to that form.
Ottawa is currently in fifth place of the North Division standings with a 22-27-5 record. Calgary is one position below them, sitting in sixth place with a 22-26-3 record. The Sens sit two points ahead of the Flames in the division table.
Ottawa won its last game 4-2 against Winnipeg, marking the third straight win and the fifth of six games. Calgary is coming off a 4-0 loss to Winnipeg, losing two straight and three of the last four.
Ottawa won the last meeting between the clubs, 4-2, along with winning the last four against Calgary. Ottawa has covered the puck line in all four games, while the goal total has failed to go OVER in three straight meetings.
