DALLAS STARS vs. CALGARY FLAMES PREDICTIONS

The Stars picked up the 4-2 victory on home ice on Friday night, forcing a Game 7 back in Calgary on Sunday, the last scheduled game of the first round of these playoffs.

Dallas faces its first Game 7 since 2020, when it topped the Colorado Avalanche in the second round in the Bubble in Edmonton. Prior to that, the Stars lost to the St. Louis Blues in Game 7 in the second round in 2019. Before that, the Blues ousted the Stars in Game 7 in the second round in 2016. They also lost in the Conference Quarters to the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 in 2007. The last victory for the Stars, in a Game 7 and in front of live fans, was in 2000 against the Colorado Avalanche.

Calgary hasn't faced a Game 7 since 2008 against the San Jose Sharks, and they lost that one. In fact, Calgary has lost three straight Game 7 matchups, including the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Their last Game 7 win came in the first round of the 2004 playoffs against the Canucks.

DALLAS STARS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 49-33-6
  • ATS: 38-50
  • O/U: 37-48-3

The Stars once held a 2-1 series lead, but lost two in a row and had their backs against the wall. In this super-close series, of course Dallas won on home ice to force a Game 7.

The Game 6 OVER result was a rarity, as the UNDER was 4-1 in the first games in the series. We had 18 total goals in the first five games, with four empty-net goals, four power-play goals and a penalty-shot goal, so Game 6 also saw the most even-strength goals of the series. We had five 5-on-5 goals, and an empty-netter, as these teams are sorta doing a Benjamin Button. Normally we see plenty of offense early on, and then the defense and goaltending take over as the series goes deeper. It's been the opposite in this one.

The Stars have dropped five of the past six games on the road, although they're an impressive 8-4 in the past 12 trips to Calgary.

CALGARY FLAMES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 53-24-11
  • ATS: 47-41
  • O/U: 42-39-7

The Flames have won 33 of the previous 48 games as a favorite, and they're 5-1 in the past six at home, so they're very glad to have this Game 7 on home ice. As mentioned, Calgary has had issues in Game 7s, but it also hasn't had one in quite some time.

The Flames are just 4-8 in the past 12 at home against Dallas, but the favorite is also 8-4 in the past 12 meetings, but just 3-3 in this series. The UNDER cashed in four of the first five in this series, but the OVER hit in Game 6. The UNDER is 6-2 in the past eight games overall for Calgary, too.

DALLAS STARS vs. CALGARY FLAMES CONCLUSION

This has been an entertaining series, especially if you like some old-time hockey with lower scoring, hitting, feisty play and good goaltending. The OVER has hit in just two of the six games, and barely cashed by a half-goal the two times it came in. Scoring has been at a premium.

Jake Oettinger and Jacob Markstrom have been tremendous in this series, although Markstrom showed some chinks in the armor in Game 6 with three goals allowed. But that wasn't a bad performance, and he should be much better on home ice. Look for a lower-scoring game, perhaps with a late empty-netter sealing the deal for Calgary, as the Pacific Division champs survive and advance by the skin of their teeth.
