Third baseman Manny Machado leads the Padres across the board in batting average (.306), home runs (24), RBI (85), on-base percentage (.374), and hits (143). Recently acquired superstar Juan Soto is batting .256 with 21 hits and six RBI during his first 23 games with the Padres. 

Before the contests on Sept. 2, the Dodgers ranked first in batting average (.261), on-base percentage (.337), slugging percentage (.448) and RBI (661), while being fifth in home runs (170). First baseman Freddie Freeman leads the Dodgers in batting average (.324), on-base percentage (.396), and hits (165). Right fielder Mookie Betts is tops on the Dodgers with 32 home runs. Shortstop Trea Turner has notched a team-high 86 RBI. 

Leading up to the set,  the Padres were 57-74-1 against the spread overall and 35-34 against the spread on the road. In terms of over/under, the Padres were 61-68-3 overall and 35-32-2 on the road.
