Fubo Gaming has announced an expanded partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers, allowing it to operate both mobile and retail sports betting in the state of Ohio. In October, Fubo first partnered with the Cavaliers, with a deal to promote the sportsbook brand during their games. That was prior to the state House and state Senate even came to agreements on alterations to HB 29. HB 29 legalized Ohio sportsbooks.

But now, Fubo is officially a mobile sports betting partner of the Cavaliers. In addition to its mobile sportsbook, there is also going to be in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse a 3,000 sq ft lounge. At the lounge, Fubo will be offering incentives and special bonus promotions.

This partnership will give Fubo immediate access to a customer base that is very attractive. Fubo Gaming President Scott Butera indicated that the company is excited to enter the Ohio sports betting market. Especially with the Cavaliers as a partner, this will be a big step for Fubo. He feels that the passionate fanbase in the state will be equally excited to access the company’s integrated streaming and wagering sports betting experience.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers CEO Len Komoroski feels Fubo is the best fit because of its commitment to engagement and innovation. He feels the company has leading technology for its mobile wagering platform as well as connectivity and entertainment. He thinks the company perfectly aligns with the Cavaliers commitment to providing the best fan experience.

He is looking forward to the continued collaboration with the company as they work to offer the best betting experience to the fans in Cleveland as well as the rest of the state. However, Fubo is not an exclusive sports betting partner of the Cavaliers. So, this may not be the last sports betting deal that we see coming from the team.

In addition, Fubo would also be able to sign three more partnership deals under the proposed rules. While both sides of the partnership are excited about the deal, they could potentially have around 11 months to wait before it really begins.

Ohio sports betting must launch by January 1st, 2023. And, according to the Ohio Casino Control Commission, the launch could be cutting it close to that date that has been mandated.

Regulators in the state have already begun the process of crafting rules for public comment, which is the first step. There are currently three batches of rules:

-Batch one is focused on provisional licenses as well as testing standards.

-Batch two includes rules on licensing for retail and mobile sportsbooks.

-Batch three is surrounding lottery kiosks as well as responsible gambling.

At this time, there are four states that neighbor Ohio that have legal sports betting. They are Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. These states have been benefiting from an influx of sports bettors from Ohio who have been able to place their bets in their state.
