Accommodation Costs in Austin Surge for Grand Prix Weekend

Formula 1 fans heading to Austin for the 2025 U.S. Grand Prix can expect to pay a premium this October, as the city braces for one of its most in-demand weekends of the year.

According to new data, the average cost of an Airbnb in Austin jumps from $423 before race week to $780 during the Grand Prix weekend — an 84% increase. For fans staying the full three days, adding the price of a 3-day wristband ticket pushes total trip costs above $1,200.

That means fans attending the race will pay nearly three times more for accommodation than the week after the event, when average Airbnb prices drop back down to around $257 per night.

Sunday is the Most Expensive Day for Fans

When it comes to tickets, Sunday is by far the priciest day to attend, with single-day passes averaging $1,031.10. That’s more than double the cost of Friday’s average ticket ($172.43) and more than twice Saturday’s ($482.28).

Between inflated accommodation costs and record ticket prices, fans could easily spend over $1,500 for a full race weekend in Austin this year.

Austin’s growing reputation as one of Formula 1’s premier U.S. destinations continues to drive demand for travel and lodging — but for fans, that demand comes at a steep price.

With both ticket and Airbnb prices peaking during the U.S. Grand Prix, attending the race has become one of the most expensive sporting weekends in Texas, rivaling even major football and music events hosted in the city. 

While accommodation and ticket costs now push a fan’s GP weekend past $1,200, past Grand Prix weekends have triggered hotel price hikes of over 30%, and many international F1 markets see 60%+ jumps in hospitality rates. 

In 2021, GP visitors spent $400 million in direct local spending in Austin alone, showing the scale of demand. 

Methodology

This analysis compares accommodation and ticket costs for the 2025 U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, using data collected for the weekends before (Oct 10–12), during (Oct 17–19), and after (Oct 24–26) the event.

Airbnb Data:

Average nightly Airbnb prices were sourced from listings available in Austin, Texas, during each weekend. The comparison includes 276 active listings to determine the average nightly rate before, during, and after the Grand Prix weekend.

Ticket Data:

Average ticket prices for October 17, 18, and 19 were taken directly from the official Circuit of the Americas Ticketmaster page. The 3-day wristband price was also recorded to calculate total weekend costs.

Total Cost Calculations:

Total trip cost” figures combine the average Airbnb cost for the Grand Prix weekend with either a 3-day wristband or the average Sunday ticket price, representing the overall spend for fans attending the event.
