Odds Subject to Change

Eastern Kentucky opens as the home favorite, given a -4-point spread after a close road game against Jacksonville State. The Colonels have covered 11 of 14 games this season, while Austin Peay is just 6-8 on the ATS.

The point total is a high 152.5, which could go either way but combining both team's O/U might go UNDER. Eastern Kentucky is split on the O/U at 7-7, while Austin Peay has gone UNDER in eight of 14 games this season.

Betting Analysis – Austin Peay Governors

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 10-6
  • ATS: 6-8
  • SU - Home: 6-5
  • SU - Away: 4-1
  • O/U: 5-8-1

Austin Peay suffered a heartbreaking home loss to Belmont last week, one of the most efficient schools in college basketball. Since then, the Governors have won back-to-back games against Tennessee State and SIU-Edwardsville. Both wins have seen the Governors score over 70 while allowing under 60.

Terry Taylor continues to play very well on offense, averaging a double-double which includes over 20 points a game. Jordyn Adams is the name to watch though, averaging just over 10 points per game and playing very well since missing five games.

Adams has scored 10 or more points in four of his last five games, as he will need to help out Taylor with buckets to match the high-powered Eastern Kentucky offense. The Governors don't do anything that stands out as remarkable, but they do grab offensive rebounds at a high-rate.

Austin Peay averages 12.4 offensive boards per game, which ranks 36th nationally. However, they only average 22.3 defensive rebounds per game, which ranks 335th. The Colonels have a highly-efficient offense, so the defensive rebounds may continue to dwindle if Eastern Kentucky is making their shots.

Betting Analysis – Eastern Kentucky Colonels

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 14-2
  • ATS: 11-2-1
  • SU - Home: 9-0
  • SU - Away: 5-2
  • O/U: 7-7

The Colonels survived a road game against Jacksonville State, winning in overtime after hitting a three-point buzzer beater that banked in for overtime. There, the Colonels ran away and secured the road win.

Nationally, Eastern Kentucky is known to a few. However, they are a 14-2 club in the OVC with the seventh-most points scored per game. The Colonels are led by Tre King who averages 16.9 points per game, but it doesn't stop there. Eastern Kentucky has four total players average a double-digit point total with Curt Lewis back as well.

Lewis averages 11.1 points per game and has 5.1 rebounds per game too. Michael Moreno and King average over 5.3 rebounds per game as well, as the Colonels are 86th nationally in rebounds per game.

Eastern Kentucky attempts more field goals than any team nationally (70.4 per game), they attempt the 39th-most two-pointers per game (40.8), they attempt the seventh-most three-pointers per game (29.6) and grab 12.1 offensive rebounds per game (ranks 45th nationally). This team is clearly not afraid to launch the basketball from anywhere on the court, and grabbing missed shots with conviction.

For how good this offense is, the defense is also impressive. They allow over 70 points per game which ranks 210th nationally, but they have the 19th-most efficient defensive rating in the nation. How is that possible? Steals.

Eastern Kentucky leads the nation in steals per game with 11.9. They feature seven players who average a steal per game, with five of those players averaging at least 1.7 and two of those five with over two steals a game. Eastern Kentucky is one of the best kept secrets in college basketball currently.

Austin Peay-Eastern Kentucky Predictions

Despite a close road scare to Jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky should be fine to cover a low spread at home. Austin Peay is in frustration mode, so they are a dangerous road team to bet against. The Governors are good enough to win the conference, but struggle against highly-efficient offenses which includes Belmont and Eastern Kentucky.

Taking the Colonels 11-3-1 ATS record at home is the smartest play just looking at the numbers, so don't be afraid to back the underrated Colonels. The point total is a bit tricky, as the spread is the only recommended bet. But if you must take the total, lean OVER.

At 152.5, one team should touch 80 points (probably Eastern Kentucky). Assuming Austin Peay can keep the game within 10 points the OVER should hit. Again though, the spread seems to be the better play of the two.

  • Score Prediction: Eastern Kentucky 80 Austin Peay 73
  • Best Bets: Eastern Kentucky -4
