Seton Hall Pirates vs. Creighton Bluejays Picks, Predictions, Odds

This Saturday’s Big East college basketball season finale between the Seton Hall Pirates and the Creighton Bluejays at CHI Health Center in Omaha is set for 2:30 p.m. (ET) on FOX.

Score Prediction

Creighton 66, Seton Hall 63

Best Bet

Under 136.5 (-110)

SETON HALL PIRATES vs. CREIGHTON BLUEJAYS PREDICTIONS

The Pirates are tied for fifth in the Big East standings at 10-8 straight-up heading into their final game of the regular season. They have bounced back lately with a modest four-game winning streak that includes a SU win against Xavier on Feb. 26 as 4.5-point road underdogs. They also hammered Creighton by 19 points in the first meeting on Feb. 4 closing as five-point favorites at home.

Creighton is tied for third in the current conference standings at 12-6 SU. They have won 11 of 14 home games this season SU with Wednesday’s two-point victory against Connecticut as a four-point underdog. This win helped the Bluejays lock-in the No. 3 seed for next week’s Big East Tournament with the season sweep over the Huskies.

This has been one of the tightest series in the Big East the past few seasons and both teams matchup well for Saturday’s game as well. Creighton gets my lean at home given the desire to avenge the lopsided loss in the first meeting. My best bet for this game would be the UNDER on the total line. Current betting trends on both sides favor a lower scoring game than the total line suggests.

SETON HALL PIRATES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 19-9
  • ATS: 13-14-1
  • O/U: 11-17

Seton Hall has failed to cover against the spread in three of its last four SU wins. The Pirates are 6-11-1 ATS in Big East play this year. The total stayed UNDER 145 points in Wednesday’s 73-68 victory at home against Georgetown. It has now stayed UNDER in 10 of their last 13 games going all the way back to Jan. 15.

The Pirates have been battling injures all season long. The latest report lists five different players as out indefinitely. Guard Bryce Aiken was averaging 14.5 points per game before a concussion took him out of the lineup. Guard Jared Rhoden has picked up the slack with a team-high 16.1 PPG.

Forward Alexis Yetna (8.5 points) leads Seton Hall in rebounds with 7.6 and guard Kadary Richmond (9.1 points) tops the list in assists with 4.4. Richmond is coming off one of his better games with 12 points and 10 assists in Wednesday’s win.

The Pirates have been able to average 74.5 points a game this season while holding opposing teams to 67.2 points. They are shooting 42.7% from the field and 33.7% from three point range. The team’s shooting percentage from the free throw line is 76.3. With a total of 39.4 rebounds a game, Seton Hall is averaging 12.4 on offense.

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 20-9
  • ATS: 14-13-2
  • O/U: 10-18-1

The Bluejays are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games going back to a road win against Connecticut on Feb. 1. They have gone 5-3-2 ATS during that same span of games. The total stayed UNDER 135 points in Wednesday’s 64-62 win against the Huskies and it has now stayed UNDER in three of their last five games. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in 19 of Creighton’s 29 games this season.

With the team averaging 69.3 PPG, forward Ryan Hawkins (14.2 points) and center Ryan Kalkbrenner (12.5 points) have been key contributors on offense. Hawkins also leads the way in rebounds with 7.8 a game with Kalkbrenner adding 7.5 more to the team’s season average of 38.1 rebounds a game.

Two other noteworthy players on offense would be guards’ Alex O’Connell with 11.7 points and Ryan Nembhard with 11.3 points a game. O’Connell is shooting 43% from the field and Nembhard leads the team in assists with 4.4.

Creighton, as a team, is shooting 45.3% from the field. This falls to 30.9% outside the three point line. Hawkins leads the way from outside with 37.2% shooting on a team-high 183 attempts. Defensively, the Bluejays have held opposing teams to an average of 66.8 PPG this season.
