Betting on the LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers have always been a very popular betting team among avid sports fans. Now that the school’s home state has legalized both retail and online sports betting, wagering on Tigers has hit much closer to home.

Louisiana State University is located in Baton Rouge. It has been a long-standing member of the Southeastern Conference since 1932, which is commonly referred to as the SEC.

The LSU basketball program dates back to 1908. The Tigers played as an Independent for 14 seasons before joining the Southern Conference in 1922. Many of the schools in this conference would form the basis for the SEC such as Alabama, Auburn and Georgia.

LSU basketball first rose to prominence in 1953 with the Tigers’ first trip to the Final Four of the annual NCAA Tournament. The next run to the National Semifinal Round was in 1981 with Dale Brown as the team’s head coach.

Brown would remain at the helm until 1997 with one more Final Four run in 1986. John Brady led the Tigers to the brink of a national title in 2006 before another semifinal loss derailed that effort.

Over the course of the team’s history in the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers have made 23 appearances with four trips to the Final Four. LSU has finished 13 seasons ranked in the Associated Press Top 25.

Famous team alumni include “Pistol” Pete Maravich. The Tigers’ basketball team plays all of its home games at Pete Maravich Assembly Center. You can also add the names Bob Petite and Shaquille O’Neal to that list.

Playing in the SEC, natural rivalries in basketball carry over from football showdowns against Alabama and Auburn. However, Kentucky has been the conference’s most successful basketball program over the years. Both Mississippi and Mississippi State could be considered natural rivals as border state universities.

The Tigers’ basketball team attracts quite a bit of betting attention as home favorites. If LSU happens to be a six-point favorite at home on a game’s point spread, a victory by seven points or more would cash a winning wager.

Betting on the LSU Tigers in Louisiana

Legal sports betting in Louisiana made its debut in the fall of 2021 through retail sportsbooks in land-based casinos. Towards the end of January in 2022, legal online betting went live through mobile sportsbooks apps.

The unlimited potential of the Louisiana sportsbook industry can be heavily tied to college programs such as LSU. The Tigers have quickly become a driving force in the state’s overall sports betting handle.

LSU Tigers Partnership With Caesars Sportsbook

LSU has the distinction of being the first major university to sign a partnership with a top US-based sportsbook. In September of 2021, the Tigers named Caesars Sportsbook as the official gaming and sportsbook partner of the University’s entire athletic program.

One of the biggest benefactors of this agreement was the Tigers’ basketball program as a major draw for Caesars.
