Florida vs No. 14 Utah Odds
- Opening point spread: Utah -6
- Opening moneyline: Utah -240/Florida +175
- Opening total: Over/Under 45.5 points scored
- Time: 8 p.m. ET Thursday (ESPN)
UPDATE 2 P.M. ET MONDAY: Defending Pac-12 champion Utah is coming off a 10-4 SU/8-6 ATS season. The Utes blasted USC 47-24 as 2.5-point underdogs in the Pac-12 championship game, but fell to Penn State 35-21 as 1.5-point Rose Bowl 'dogs.
Utah quarterback Cameron Rising tore his ACL in that loss. At the moment, he's listed as the Week 1 starter, but that's worth keeping an eye on.
Florida is coming off a couple of un-Florida-like years. The Gators went 6-6 SU in each of the past two regular seasons, then lost in a bowl game to end up sub-.500. In 2022, Florida finished 6-7 SU/7-6 ATS, getting throttled 30-3 by Oregon State as a 7.5-point Las Vegas Bowl pup.
After opening Utes -6 on Aug. 22, TwinSpires Sportsbook quickly went to -6.5 and is now at Utes -7. Florida is seeing 60% of spread tickets, while 66% of spread money is on Utah.
"The public will typically take the SEC team in this spot, getting 7," TwinSpires director of retail sports Zachary Lucas said. "Sharp play on Utah early in the week is bringing this spread to a touchdown."
Other sportsbooks opened this game much earlier, with Utah as much as an 8.5-point favorite. So speculation on Rising's availability likely helped draw down the spread.
The total nudged from 45.5 to 46, with 57% of early tickets/61% of early cash on the Over. The moneyline is at Utah -265/Florida +195.
