Miami (FL) vs. Notre Dame Prediction

ND @ MIA Odds

Both of these teams have a lot of question marks with their offenses being led by new quarterbacks. When the uncertainty comes into play, experience matters to me. Carson Beck should get more of an opportunity to air it out with Miami, and we know he has that experience. Meanwhile, Notre Dame is starting a freshman quarterback on the road in his college debut. That could very well be the difference in the game. Notre Dame has more talent defensively, but I think Carr will make too many mistakes under pressure. I'll take the Hurricanes as an underdog.

Notre Dame vs. Miami (FL) Pick: Miami (FL) moneyline (+122)

Texas vs. Ohio State Prediction

TEX @ OSU Odds

The reigning college football national champions are losing A LOT heading into their title defense. Veteran quarterback Will Howard is now a Pittsburgh Steeler, and so is defensive standout Jack Sawyer. The Buckeyes have to replace the entirety of their defensive line, which rated 8th in pass rush rating and 2nd in run defense rating.

While there are unknowns at both teams' QB position, Arch Manning has more experience on the field than Ohio State's Julian Sayin, and that is a huge advantage in a marquee matchup like this. Texas also boasts what will likely end up being a top-5 defense in college football. The offensive line remains a question for Sark's squad, but I like that their first task is to deal with a completely new Buckeyes defensive line.

Ohio State undoubtedly has the best player on the field in Jeremiah Smith. However, the loss of both star running backs leaves a massive hole in the backfield, and I am not sure if that problem will be solved by Week 1 for the Buckeyes.

Texas vs. Ohio State Pick: Texas moneyline (-110)

Utah vs. UCLA Prediction

UTAH @ UCLA Odds

I LOVE this Utah team heading into this season. They have always been strong on defense, and the run game has been dependable (if not outstanding). That should continue, and while Cam Rising was healthy last season, they were elite on offense with a strong pass game. He got hurt, and the whole offense went in the dumpster, so they added a super-talented young New Mexico transfer, Devon Dampier, who should elevate their offense this season.

On the flip side, UCLA had a horrible 2024, and the drama surrounding Nico Iamaleava leaving Tennessee reeks of disaster for the Bruins.

Utah vs. UCLA Pick: Utah -3

Alabama vs. Florida State Prediction

BAMA @ FSU Odds

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is heading into the 2025 season firmly on the hot seat after turning in a disastrous 2-10 campaign last season.

However, there should be plenty of reason for optimism for FSU fans and backers as Norvell completely revamped this roster in the transfer portal.

Starting on the offense, the Seminoles will be breaking in a familiar QB for ACC fans: former BC quarterback Thomas Castellanos. Castellanos is undersized and has some limitations throwing the ball, but his mobility is a game-changer. He'll be alongside former Bama running back Roydell Williams, who missed last year due to injury.

On the defensive side of the ball, Tony White will be breaking in his 3-3-5 defensive scheme that often confused opposing offenses and generated solid units at Nebraska and Syracuse.

On the other side, Alabama will also be trotting out a new quarterback of their own in Ty Simpson. He'll be without his running back Jam Miller, who is expected to miss the first month of the season due to a broken collarbone.

The strength of this Alabama team comes from the other side of the ball. The Crimson Tide's defense ranked 10th in points per game allowed last season, which is returning a remarkable ten starters. Corner Domani Jackson, linebacker Deontae Lawson and defensive lineman LT Overton are all viewed as potential high draft picks.

Although Bama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is known to chuck the ball around, I expect the Crimson Tide to slow this game down, lean on a solid offensive line and let their defense do the heavy lifting here. FSU has the potential to be pesky here, but with so much roster turnover, it's going to take some time to gel.

Alabama vs. Florida State Pick: Under 50.5

Clemson vs. LSU Prediction

LSU @ CLEM Odds

LSU will look to upend an ugly five-game losing streak of season openers. Last season, LSU lost in disappointing fashion to a marginal USC team - they'll take on a much tougher opponent in Clemson, who has legitimate national title aspirations.

Since losing the national title game in 2020 to LSU, Clemson's program has slightly fallen off from year-over-year title contender to a good-but-not-great ACC contender. However, the Tigers of Clemson were able to gather plenty of momentum down the stretch last season, winning the ACC title over SMU, and pushing Texas in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Clemson will rely on quarterback Cade Klubnik, who is one of the early favorites to hoist the Heisman. On the other side of ball, Clemson should be terrorizing for opposing offenses, specifically the defensive line led by TJ Parker.

Parker is a projected top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and is one of college football's best pass rushers. He'll be accompanied by Peter Woods, who is the anchor to this defense. On the back end, they'll lean on Avieon Terrell to limit this LSU passing attack, who had 13 PBU's a season ago.

Despite their poor track record, head coach Brian Kelly will have LSU ready to go in this one in what is a pivotal year in Baton Rouge. This is arguably his most talented roster since he has been there, and they have the talent to hang around with this Clemson squad.

However, the LSU offensive line has a potential nightmare matchup on their hands against this Clemson front. Garrett Nussmeier had a prolific season a year ago in part because he was able to stay upright all year long. As a pocket passer, he's bound to have some early season hurdles breaking in four new starters on the offensive line. Clemson's DL is as brutal a matchup as it gets for this new-look LSU OL to open the season with - I expect LSU to struggle to move the ball in this one.

Clemson vs. LSU Pick: LSU team total under 27.5
