Penn State vs. Oregon Best Bet

I don't love the cross-country road trip for Oregon or the fact that Penn State is off an FCS/bye week combo, but I can't get to this number, with Penn State on the other side of 3. It's still a bit difficult to gauge exactly what Dante Moore is going to be for the Ducks, but he has been fantastic so far this year, completing 75% of his passes with an 11-1 TD/INT ratio. He also grades out as PFF's 6th-best QB with a minimum of 95 dropbacks, with 7 big-time throws and just 1 turnover-worthy play. The same can not be said of Drew Allar, who is PFF's 60th-rated QB with only 1 big-time throw and 2 turnover-worthy plays in fewer games against worse competition. I believe in the talent Penn State has at a lot of positions, but I don't think they'll be able to effectively throw the ball against the Ducks.

Allar has struggled mightily against top-tier competition in his career. Just last year, with Andy Kotelnicki as OC, he had the following stat lines:

Against Ohio State: 12/20, 146 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

Against Oregon: (neutral site): 20/39, 226 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INT. Decent, but they still lost by 8.

Against SMU: 13/22, 127 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INT

Against Notre Dame: 12/23, 135 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

In a big game like this, QBs have to step up, and I just don't have faith in Allar to do it against a top-5 defense. I also do not trust James Franklin to win against another elite program. And for those reasons, I am out. Ducks outright.

Penn State vs. Oregon Best Bet: Oregon Ducks +3.5 (-110)
