Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Boston College Eagles Predictions

Neither of these teams are doing anything truly special this season but there’s value in the Hokies defense – especially with an under play. The Eagles just can’t do anything right at this point of the season and have one of the worst downward trajectories in the ACC.

They’ve lost four straight games – the latest a 21-6 strangulation by Syracuse. It’s just a terrible combination of circumstances that BC’s offense is non-existent and Virginia Tech’s pass defense is one of the better units in conference. After scoring at least 28 points in four straight wins, the Eagles have failed to hit 20 points in each of their last four games – all losses.

Tech stopped a three-game losing streak by handling Georgia Tech 26-17. Before that there were losses to Cuse, Pitt, and Notre Dame. They are scoring points at least, although neither of these team’s offenses are much to look at from a statistical standpoint.

The biggest question in this game concerns which team’s defense will be able to overcome the other side of the ball. It’s going to be a struggle, but Virginia Tech’s defense is better. Their run game is the lone thing working, but it’s good enough to pound away on BC.

Dennis Grosel leads the Eagles passing attack with 1216 yards and a 6:7 TD to INT ratio. Not great by any standards. The rushing game is all Pat Garwo III as he’s amassed 689 yards on just 116 attempts – a ridiculous 5.9 YPR. Garwo also has 5 TDs on the ground.

Alex Sinkfield and Travis Levy have split the remaining carries, both accounting for six total rushing TDs. Zay Flowers is the dominant receiver on the Eagles offense with 511 yards. His 2 TDs are second to both Jaden Williams and TE Trae Barry - who each have three. The Eagles defense is ranked 79th against the run and 94th against the pass.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Boston College Eagles Betting Conclusion

The under seems to be the safest play with both teams relying so much on their defense. There’s already a good chance BC will turn it over in the air, and even Virginia Tech hasn’t been threading any needles recently. Both teams want to run, and both teams have good enough defenses to limit big plays.

This game may be over faster than Army-Air Force if we see the predicted number of rushes. BC is also trying to keep the ball out of their QB’s hands as much as possible. It’s safe to play the under, but Va Tech is better than three points against BC – no matter where they play.
