Oregon Ducks vs. Utah Utes Predictions

The Utah Utes can claim their first Pac 12 Championship on Friday in Las Vegas. Utah made it to the Pac 12 Championship Game in 2018 and 2019, but the Utes came up short both times. The Oregon Ducks will be looking to stop them and claim their third straight conference championship. Oregon has won four Pac 12 titles in the last decade, and the Ducks hammered the Utes 37-15 two years ago.

There is plenty of reason for Utah to be optimistic coming into this game. The Utes dismantled Oregon 38-7 in Salt Lake City two weeks ago, and they have been one of the most dominant teams in the country since September. They are only short favorites, but they will emerge victorious once more behind a strong ground game.

Oregon Ducks Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 10-2
  • ATS: 5-7
  • O/U: 6-6

Travis Dye has carried the load for the Ducks ever since C.J. Verdell suffered a season-ending injury. Dye has been the most reliable part of this offense, running for 1,036 yards (5.8 YPC) with 14 touchdowns. Byron Cardwell has had some big runs as the new No. 2 running back, and he is averaging 7.4 YPC.

Quarterback Anthony Brown is one of the best mobile threats in the country. Brown is the second-leading rusher on the Ducks with 642 rushing yards (4.9 YPC) and nine touchdowns. He has put up decent passing numbers, but he has struggled to consistently hit his receivers down the field.

Dye has the most receptions of any player on the Ducks. Devon Williams has been a solid option the last two weeks though with 11 catches for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Kris Hutson has been a threat too with 11 receptions for 178 yards and a score in Oregon’s last two games.

The Ducks rank 49th in Defensive SP+. They have a future top three pick in Kayvon Thibodeaux and a talented linebacker that can do it all in Noah Sewell, but the talent elsewhere is lacking.

Utah Utes Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 9-3
  • ATS: 5-7
  • O/U: 8-4

The Utes’ season turned around when Cam Rising took over at quarterback. Rising has been more effective than grad transfer Charlie Brewer was under center, as the sophomore is averaging 7.7 YPA with 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. He is also a dangerous runner, averaging 6.4 YPC with five touchdowns.

This ground game has been the most effective in the country. Utah leads the nation with 5.7 YPC, and Tavion Thomas has run for 978 yards and 18 touchdowns. T.J. Pledger has been explosive too, averaging 7.1 YPC as the Utes’ second leading rusher.

These tight ends are excellent. Brant Kuithe is the top receiver on the team with 43 receptions for 522 yards and six touchdowns, and Dalton Kincaid has 29 receptions for 404 yards and six scores. Britain Covey has been a solid underneath option with 44 catches for 408 yards.

Utah’s front seven was gashed early in the year. The Utes have been better though, and they are allowing just 3.8 YPC. They held Oregon to 2.7 YPC in their first meeting, and they have one of the best linebackers in the country. Devin Lloyd has 100 tackles, seven sacks, and three interceptions.
