CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS vs. OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS BETTING PREDICTION

The Chippewas head into Stillwater with a lot of energy and some hype surrounding the program. Central Michigan closed out the 2021 regular season with six victories in the final seven outings, and then it upgraded its bowl standing due to some COVID issues around college football to work into a Sun Bowl invite, and a big win over Washington State.

Central Michigan won't be fazed by a trip to Stillwater, either. Remember, this is a Chips team which picked up a 30-27 victory over the Cowboys at Boone Pickens Stadium when Cooper Rush hit Jesse Kroll on a Hail Mary pass with zeroes on the clock. Kroll was tumbling to the ground and flipped backwards to Corey Willis, who carried the ball the rest of the way. It was a controversial ending, however, as the miracle play should never have happened, as Oklahoma State was called for intentional grounding on the previous fourth-down play. CMU was incorrectly awarded an untimed down, but an untimed down should only be awarded on a penalty to the defense. To make matters worse for the Cowboys, and their faithful, it was a MAC officiating crew. Ouch.

Oklahoma State doesn't have any players who felt the sting of that controversial loss, but head coach Mike Gundy certainly remembers, and will likely use that memory as extra motivation.

The Cowboys wrapped up the 2021 season with a 21-16 loss to Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game, but rebounded with an exciting 37-35 win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl to build momentum heading into 2022. OK State was a bettor's favorite in 2021, too, going 10-1-1 ATS in their final 12 games overall.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Chippewas have some big holes to fill, especially at the skill positions. While all-everything RB Lew Nichols III is back, as is QB Daniel Richardson, the team lost exciting return man and WR Kalil Pimpleton, as well as big-time playmaker JaCorey Sullivan. The defense has some big shoes to fill with LB Troy Brown moving on, as well as other key starters like DB Devonni Reed and DL Troy Hairston II.

Central Michigan handled its business last season against Power 5 teams, winning outright against Washington State in the bowl game, while going 2-1 ATS with a 2-1 UNDER mark, too. It also won its only game outside the state of Michigan against these same Cowboys.

In its past four games against the Big 12, Central Michigan has won two of three games outright, including a 45-27 win at Kansas on Sept. 9, 2017. The UNDER has cashed in four of the past five for the Chips against the Big 12, too, including each of the two all-time meetings with OK State in 2015 and 2016.

OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Cowboys tied a record with 12 victories under Gundy in 2021, using a strong defense to come within a whisker of the Big 12 title. The Cowboys must replace six starters on defense, however, and that's a pretty tall order. The good news is that the pass rush is mostly intact.

On offense, QB Spencer Sanders is back, but he will have to jell with another receiver after losing top playmaker Tay Martin. RB Jaylen Warren, who went over 1,200 yards, is also gone, as are two offensive linemen. OK State should be able to generate plenty of offense here, but over the course of the season it might be more of an issue.

This is Oklahoma State's first meeting against a MAC foe since that controversial loss to Central Michigan on Sept. 10, 2016. The only two recent games against MAC teams are the two games with the Chips, going 1-1 SU and 0-2 ATS while cashing the UNDER both times.
