Betting on the LSU Tigers
Any time that you spent handicapping last year’s edition on the Louisiana State football team is probably not going to help you betting on the LSU Tigers in the near future. That big contract the school gave to Brian Kelly to draw him away from Notre Dame means you’re going to see a different product on the field this season.
Here’s one aspect that you may want to remember. While the Tigers finished their season on a 3-4-1 run against the spread (ATS), the incumbent head coach’s roster prepped for their bowl game after covering 9 of their last 10 contests.
Hard to imagine that it was only a few years back when the LSU Tigers won their last title. Running what some called “The greatest offense in College Football history,” they found themselves down to Clemson early in the first half 17-7. Then, the future of the Cincinnati Bengals took over the game and 10 minutes and 38 seconds later, after 3 Joe Burrow TDs, they were in control of their 4th National Championship.
So much has changed since then. Ed Orgeron is out, thanks in part to a 6-6 regular season finish going 3-5 in SEC play. Their new coach was lured from The Fighting Irish, a program that he was never able to win a trophy for, with that proverbial boatload of money! There’s a 3-way competition at the QB position and the 2022 version of the Bayou Bengals won’t show up in any of the preseason Top 25 polls.
Playing football in the Southeastern Conference is a challenge for any school not named Alabama.
This LSU Tigers Team is a member of, arguably, the toughest football conference in the country. Those enthusiastic LSU Tigers Football fan pages can find some consolation in knowing this coach, over his last 16 years in South Bend and at Cincinnati before that, has an overall winning percentage of .761!
One of the area where the LSU Tigers football team will have to improve is in the second halves of games. They’re coming off a campaign where they allowed an average of almost 17 points after the break. Of course, if you figured that out early enough in the season you probably profited betting against them and their 2-11 ATS record.
