FedEx St. Jude Championship Picks, Predictions, Odds

The regular season of the PGA Tour is over. The top 125 golfers will now compete in the FedEx Cup Playoffs starting this week at TPC Southwind for the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Almost every golfer that is able will participate in this week’s tournament as it has a $15 million prize pool, and the top 70 golfers after this week qualify for another tournament (the BMW Championship) with a $15 million prize pool next week. The FedEx Cup Playoffs are so lucrative that three members of the LIV Tour (Talor Gooch, Matt Jones, and Hudson Swafford) have filed a lawsuit to try and participate in this week’s event.

The 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first of three events in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. This tournament will be played at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee from August 11-14. TPC Southwind is a par 70 course that tips at 7,244 yards.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER TO WIN THE EVENT (+1600)

The No. 1 ranked golfer in the FedEx Cup Rankings right now is Scottie Scheffler. We saw Scheffler win four PGA Tour events in a two-month stretch earlier this year, but he has been in a relative slump since his Masters victory. Scheffler finished T2 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and the US Open, but his next best performance was a T13 at the Travelers Championship.

Scheffler has finished T15 at TPC Southwind in each of the last two years. He hasn’t played in an event since The Open Championship nearly a month ago, but he was in the mix through three rounds at 11-under before a 74 on Sunday led to him missing out on a T20 finish. The value on Scheffler is too good to pass up at 16-1.

TONY FINAU TOP 5 FINISH (+490)

No one is hotter than Tony Finau at the moment. He skipped the Wyndham Championship last week after winning the 3M Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic in consecutive weeks, and he is now up to 7th in the FedEx Cup Rankings. Finau is ranked fifth on the PGA Tour in GIR, and he won’t be punished too much for his shortcomings with the driver on this course.

Finau has yet to record a T25 finish in four previous trips to TPC Southwind. That might make some bettors lay off him at this price, but his recent form coupled with that prior experience makes him worth a play at almost 5-1 to finish T5.

CAMERON YOUNG TO WIN GROUP B (+420)

The oddsmakers have made Cameron Young a significant underdog to finish at the top of a group that includes Matthew Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, and Justin Thomas. Young has finished T2 in his last two tournaments though, and he has a whopping five runner-up finishes and seven T3 finishes this season. This is Young’s first run at TPC Southwind, and his strengths aren’t highlighted at this course, but this number is too high.
