Friday’s Horse Racing Picks from Gulfstream Park

Being stuck indoors was fun and profitable yesterday if you played along as we hit with my top pick in each of the three races in yesterday’s column and we had a good day at Gulfstream Park.

My Gulfstream Park Report included six winners on top on the 10-race card, paying $9.00, $8.20, $5.20, $4.20, $3.00 and $13.60. We hit six recommended exactas: $21.20, $23.40, $13.80, $27.00, $46.00 and $11.00.

In yesterday’s column we hit the opener at Gulfstream Park with a $9.00 winner, $21.20 exacta and a $1 trifecta for $90.80.

The feature at Oaklawn Park was the sixth where we had Esposito on top at $6.40 but missed on the exacta as our longshot Hold On Angel checked in third.

The feature at Gulfstream Park was the eighth race where Too Much War paid a nice $13.60 and topped a $2 exacta that paid $46.00 and we also hit the trifecta for $77.10.

It was announced yesterday morning that jockey Javier Castellano has tested positive for Covid-19, which at first I thought might end racing at Gulfstream Park.

However, Castellano had been in New York and flew back in to ride the Florida Derby card on Saturday. He has not ridden at Gulfstream Park since March 15.

Gulfstream Park announced that racing would go on and we have a solid 11-race card this afternoon and a total of 14 races on Saturday including the $750,000 Florida Derby (G1).

I will have my analysis of the Road to the Kentucky Derby race in tomorrow’s column and I am not selecting the 6-5 morning line favorite Tiz the Law among my top three selections.

Among the tracks still running now are Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita, Tampa Bay Downs, Fonner Park, Will Rogers Downs, Los Alamitos, Remington Park and Oaklawn Park.

Here is the opening race from Gulfstream Park to get the day off to a good start:

GP Race 1 Md Sp Wt (1:00 ET)
#6 Adsam 6-1
#3 Alonzo Mosely 10-1
#8 Rhythm Section 8-1
#2 Counterstrike 5-2

Analysis: Adsam adds blinkers here for his second career start for the Brown barn that is 35% winners (with a +ROI) with second out maidens. The colt raced near the back of the pack in his debut where he was sent off at 9-1 and finished evenly in a fourth-place finish. The third-place finisher Proven Strategies came back to graduate in his next start here on March 4. The colt is out of a Seeking the Gold mare that has dropped four other foals to race with two winners including one turf winner. He should show more today with a race under his belt although he will have to find a new jock as Castellano is off his mounts today.

Alonzo Mosely veered coming out of the gate in his debut leaving him next to last and made a mild late run to finish third at Tampa Bay Downs going a mile on turf. His speed fig is coming up on the light side but he is in good hands with the Clement barn that is 20% winners with second out maidens. He gets a jock upgrade to Rosario. He is the first foal tor ace out of an Uncle Mo mare. He draws a better spot and is likely to get overlooked din the betting in this spot.

Wagering
WIN: #6 to win at 4-1 or better.
EX: 3,6 / 2,3,6,8
TRI: 3,6 / 2,3,6,8 / 1,2,3,6,8

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Gulfstream Park:

GP Race 9 OClm $75,000N1X (5:12 ET)
#1 Money Moves 3-1
#4 Ournationonparade 9-2
#7 Silver Ratio 4-1
#11 Liveyourbeastlife 20-1

Analysis: Money Moves was sent off at 6-5 in his debut, catching a sloppy track that he handled nice. The Pletcher trainee stalked the early pace and finished up well late to win by 1 1/4 lengths. He stretches out to a mile here and has plenty of pedigree to get more ground. He was a $975,000 Ocala purchase, by Candy Ride out of the stakes winner Citizen Advocate ($327,450) who has dropped one other foal to race, Remarqued ($128,85) who is 1 for 14 the win coming at a mile on turf. The barn is 22% winners moving runners from sprint to route. Looks as if this guy still has a ton of upside.

Ournationonparade pressed the early pace and could not hang late in a third-place finish in the Hutcheson but as beaten just a half-length for the top spot at six furlongs. The gelding makes his second start off a four mot break here and looks capable of handling a one turn mile. He broke his maiden two back at six furlongs winning the Maryland Million Nursery last fall at Laurel Park. The barn is 19% winners moving runners from sprint to route. Paco sticks and the 9-2 morning line looks fair.

Wagering
WIN: #1 to win at 3-1 or better.
EX: 1,4 / 1,4,7,11
TRI: 1,4 / 1,4,7,11 / 2,4,7,11,12

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Santa Anita:

SA Race 5 Clm $12,500N2L (3:07 PT)
#6 Red Valor 4-1
#5 Tromador 5-2
#2 Minosa 9-5
#3 Satrapa 3-1

Analysis: Red Valor pressed the early pace and weakened to finish seventh last out at this level. The gelding regressed off a solid effort two back where he dueled for the early lead and cold not go with the winner late in a runner up finish. He owns solid early and mid pace numbers and is better than he showed last out. He looks capable of bouncing back with a better effort against this group.

Tromado pressed the early pacer, got clear heading for home and battled on gamely in between foes to come out on the short end in a third-place finish, beaten a half-length for the top spot. He was claimed out of the race by the Hansen barn that is 25% winners first off the claim and is having a strong meeting here, winning at a 32% clip overall. Toss his turf effort two back ad his form looks best in here.
