Horse Races Today: Sunday’s Gulfstream Park Odds

Horse Racing Action at TVG!
Saturday at Gulfstream Park started off really weird. The winners in the first three races paid $148.40, $70.00 and $75.20. The early Pick 3 for .50 cents returned $14,483.65.

Usually when a longshot hits I can go back in the past performances and find something that looks positive and a reason to think maybe the winner had a legitimate shot. I could not come up with a reason to back any of those three winners.

The day got considerably better and we closed it out in the finale with Farley scoring as my top pick at $23.40 and with my fourth choice the exacta paid $89.40.

That brings us into Easter Sunday and we indeed have plenty of action, although it is just one track. Gulfstream Park kicks off at noon and we have a solid 12-race card on tap.

This is certainly going to be a strange day. Easter is usually a day we spend with family and friends and instead the vast majority of us are stranded in our houses, isolated from our family and the world.

My Best Plays Report for Saturday includes my nine strongest plays from Oaklawn Park and Gulfstream Park.
Here is hoping all of you stay safe and healthy and we get back to some semblance of normalcy in the very near future.

The NBC Sports Network will simulcast the TVG Network from 4:00 to 8:00 ET. Horseplayers can also stream all the horse racing action using the Watch TVG App. The horse betting company based in the U.S. is offering a risk free bet up to $300 for new players.

Here is the opening race from Gulfstream Park to get the day off to a good start:

GP Race 1 Md $25,000 (12:00 ET)
#4 Couple of Nikkis   6-1
#10 Sunday Scheming   5-1
#2 Grimpante   4-1
#9 Into Fancy   9-2

Analysis: Couple of Nikkis drops back in for a tag after stalking the early pace and tiring to finish eighth last out against state bred maiden special weight foes. The winner Lady Panda came back to beat Alw-1 optional claimers and the third-place finisher Sister Otoole graduated in her next outing on March 26. Three back our top pick was beaten just a nose in a tough beat for a $25,000 tag. She is out of a In Summation mare that has dropped one other foal to race, Lolonita who shows one turf win in five trips. Paco sticks and the 6-1 morning line looks fair.

Sunday Scheming makes her first start since her debut last November where she was sent off at 8-1 in a field of 10 $50,000 maiden claimers. She was off near the back of the pack and outrun in an eighth-place finish. That was in a race washed off the turf and now she tries grass for the Ward barn that is 33% winners (with a +ROI) moving runners from dirt to turf. She has a decent enough turf pedigree, by Constitution out of a Mizzen Mast mare that has dropped one other foal to race, no winners to date. She has steady works on turf at Palm Meadows and drops into an easier spot here.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Gulfstream Park:

GP Race 8 Md $32,000 (3:28 ET)
#7 Sole Seeker   8-1
#4 Le Coste   6-1
#8 Budget Buster   7-2
#10 Boss Life   3-1

Analysis: Sole Seeker drops in for a tag and tries grass for the first time here in his second start off a 11-month layoff. He showed some ability ion the main track at Keeneland two back with a third-place finish. He has a decent turf pedigree, by Orb out of an Arch mare that has dropped two other foals to race, both winners including one turf winner. Bravo takes the calla and this guy should be a decent price in this spot for McPeek who has won with three of his first eight starters at the meeting.

Le Coste raced mid pack and finished evenly in a fourth-place finish last out against $50,000 foes. The runner up Rhythm Section came back to graduate in his next outing on March 27 against maiden special weight foes. He makes his first start here for Orseno and Paco sticks. He has a solid turf pedigree, out of a Hennessy mare that has dropped three winners and two have won on turf.

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
