Friday’s Picks from Aqueduct

We have rain in the forecast for Friday morning which likely will move the four raced carded for the grass today at Aqueduct over to the main track.

The rain is supposed to stop by midafternoon so we likely will be back on turf for Saturday which features the $150,000 Artie Schiller, the first stakes race of the Aqueduct fall meeting.

The meet got off to a good start for us with Gun Boat getting the job done as my top pick in yesterday’s feature, paying $8.10. With my third choice Vaccine of Hope the $2 exacta returned $35.60.

Ten were entered in the Artie Schiller on Saturday along with two main track only entrants in the one- mile race on the inner turf. The Tom Morley trained Tell Your Daddy is the 3-1 morning line favorite.

The gelding is coming off a solid runner up finish in the Keeneland Turf Mile (G1). The gelding won the Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2) on yielding ground in his previous outing.

One contender that is going to offer a bit more value is March to the Arch (8-1) who was fourth in the Woodbine Mile (G1) in his last outing. He was third in the King Edward (G2) at Woodbine two back.

For an ungraded stakes race the Artie Schiller sure came up tough. Seven in the field are coming out of a graded stakes race.

There is not a lot of stakes action tomorrow, so we will probably either head out to Churchill Downs where the feature is the $300,000 Dream Supreme or there are a pair of graded stakes at Woodbine on Saturday.

“America’s Day at the Races” is on FS2 from 12:00 to 6:00 ET with the action from Aqueduct. TVG is offering new players up to a $300 Risk Free wager.  In addition, AmWager is offering up to a $200 risk free wager for new horseplayers.

AQUEDUCT 1 ANALYSIS (12:20 P.M. ET)

AQU Race 1 Md Sp Wt

  • #2 Demandsrespect 5-2
  • #1 Greatitude 3-1
  • #4 Mischievous Diane 2-1
  • #3 Puglia 5-1

Analysis: Demandsrespect was sent off at 8-1 in her debut catching a muddy track at the Spa back in July. She chased the early pace while a bit keen, the jock took a hold of her just off heels of a foe and came with a five wide bid to finish evenly for fifth, beaten 2 1/4 lengths. Three have exited that race to win next out including the winner Miss Interpret, who won the PG Johnson at the Spa on Sept. 2. Brow is 26% winners with second out maidens. She is by Union Rags out of the stakes winner Walkwithapurpose ($297,210) who has dropped four winners including stakes winner Where Paradise Lay ($222,250). She has worked sharply since her debut effort and Brown can bring them back running off the break.

Greatitude is a $230,000 Ocala purchase making her debut for the Pletcher barn that is 18% winners with debut runners. She is by Dialed In out of a stakes placed Empire Maker mare and should be able to handle a wet track. Good works on the morning tab including a couple of recent gate drills should have this gal ready to go.

AQUEDUCT 7 ANALYSIS (3:13 P.M. ET)

AQU Race 7 Alw $72,000N1X

  • #1 Blame It On Mary 4-1
  • #2 Ancient Brown 8-1
  • #6 Pretty Clever 5-2
  • #4 Towering Orbit 6-1

Analysis: Blame It On Mary is back on the main track after a couple of trips on turf, two back beaten just a nose at this level off a four-month break. She regressed last out, setting the early fractions and weakening to finish fifth. She broke her maiden in the slop over the main track here back in April by eight lengths in a race washed off the turf. She owns solid early and mid pace numbers and draws the rail. She wheels back quick for the Barker barn and will appreciate the surface switch.

Ancient Brown makes her first start after landing with the Donk barn, previously at Belterra Park. She beat Alw-1 company here in her last outing going six furlongs. She was competitive at Churchill Downs in a runner up finish against $10,000 non-winners of two back in May and has a win over the main track here, breaking her maiden back in '19. She has done some of her best running on wet tracks, winning 3 of 7 and is going to be a decent price in this spot.

LIVE LONGSHOTS

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their Pick 4 and Pick 5 wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win wager.
