San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants Betting Predictions

The Padres opened the season on the road against the Diamondbacks. San Diego lost the opening game, but managed to win the next three. The Padres had the bats working in Sunday’s game with eight hits, eight RBIs, two home runs, and 10 total runs scored. San Diego’s pitching was not great, but managed to get the job done, allowing five hits, two home runs, and five earned runs. The right-hander Yu Darvish is scheduled to get the start for San Diego on Tuesday. Darvish has pitched in one game this season and went 6.0 innings, gave up zero hits, and struck out three batters.

The Giants started the season at home against the Miami Marlins. San Francisco managed to win two of three games thanks to quality defense. In their most recent game on Sunday the Giants gave up 11 hits, but allowed just two earned runs. The Giants did a nice job capitalizing on the few opportunities they had, with just six total hits they managed to bring in three runs to win the game 3-2. Right-handed pitcher Alex Cobb is expected to take the mound for the Giants on Tuesday. Cobb has yet to pitch this season, but went 8-3 last season with an ERA of 3.76 and struck out 98 batters in 93.1 innings of work.

I like the Padres to win this one straight up. San Diego has been swinging the bat much better than the Giants have and Yu Darvish looked great in his first outing of the year. The total is set at 8 for this matchup and I would have to lean towards the under with who's pitching for both teams, but will be staying away from the total as that could go either way with it set so low.

San Diego Padres Betting Analysis

  • SU: 4-1
  • RL: 4-1
  • O/U: 1-4

After finishing their opening series, the Padres are 3-1 SU, 3-1 ATS, and have an O/U record of 1-3. Going back to last season the total has now gone under in five of the Padres last seven games. Going against this trend the total has gone over in 11 of their last 15 games when playing on the road against San Francisco.

San Diego have been hitting the ball fairly well with a team batting average of .252 (9th), on base percentage of .348 (7th), and 20 total runs scored (2nd). The first baseman Eric Hosmer has been locked in with a batting average of .500 (6-12), one RBI, and no home runs. Left fielder Jurickson Profar has also been great with a batting average of .400 (4-10), six RBIs, and two home runs. With 33 total hits on the season the Padres are a team to watch out for this season.

The Padres pitching has been excellent to start the season with three quality starts on the board (1st). They are allowing opponents a batting average of .129 (1st) and an ERA of 2.83 (8th). Right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish is scheduled to get the start for San Diego on Tuesday. Darvish has pitched in one game this season and went 6.0 innings, gave up zero hits, and struck out three batters. Last season Darvish was 8-11 with an ERA of 4.22 and struck out 199 batters in 166.1 innings pitched.

San Francisco Giants Betting Analysis

  • SU: 2-2
  • RL: 0-4
  • O/U: 1-3

After their series with Miami the Giants are 2-1 SU, 0-3 ATS, and have an O/U record of 1-2. Going back to last season the total has gone under in six of San Francisco’s last nine home games. The Giants have seen recent success against NL West opponents, going 10-4 SU in their last 14 games against the NL West.

The Giants have had a slow start on the offensive end with a team batting average of .183 (28th), on base percentage of .260 (26th), and 10 total runs scored (26th). Left fielder Darin Ruf leads the team with a batting average of .273 (3-11), 1 RBI, 0 home runs. Not one player on the Giants has more than one home run and one RBI. In fact, as a team the Giants have just 3 total home runs and 9 RBI’s. They will need more offensive production against a Padres team that can get hot in a hurry.

San Francisco’s pitching has been solid with one quality start in three games. They have allowed opponents a batting average of .238 (T-19th) and an ERA of 2.89 (9th). The right hander Alex Cobb is expected to take the mound for the Giants on Tuesday. Cobb has yet to pitch this season, but went 8-3 last season with an ERA of 3.76 and struck out 98 batters in 93.1 innings of work.

San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants Betting Conclusion

I would expect San Francisco’s offense to pick up in this series after going against Miami’s solid pitching staff. With that being said, I still think the Padres get the job done on Tuesday. Yu Darvish pitched great in his first start against Arizona and that confidence should carry into Tuesday. Taking the Padres moneyline in this matchup as I think the game ends with a close score of 4-3.
