Regular season NBA action resumes on Saturday night with a heavyweight Eastern Conference clash between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. Coverage begins from the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

BOSTON CELTICS vs. PHILADELPHIA 76ERS BETTING PREDICTION

The Celtics boast the best record in the entire league at 43-17, and for the time being, they stand as the title favorites, owning a slight edge over Phoenix and Milwaukee in the futures department at the moment. Which comes as no surprise, considering Boston ranks Top 5 in the league in both offensive and defensive rating (117.2 ORtg, 111 DRtg), and very few teams are capable of stacking up against such a high level of balance on a consistent basis.

Unlike previous iterations of this Celtics’ squad, Boston seems very comfortable wagering its fate on the ability to outshoot the opposing team from three-point territory, and so far, they’ve found nothing but success since adopting that method, highlighted by Boston jacking up the second-most three-point attempts in the league at the fifth-highest percentage clip (42 3PA, 38% 3FG).

By no means is this Boston’ team flawless, especially in the frontcourt. In some ways, the Celtics’ increased production from long-range has somewhat masked their lack of ability down low, but don’t be fooled, they still play mediocre basketball in the painted area, and from time-to-time, they’ll get burned in matchups against superstar big men.

The Celtics dropped 5-of-13 contests leading up to the All-Star Break, which included losses to the Bucks, Heat, Suns, Knicks, and Magic, and the common denominator seems to be a strong interior presence.

Quite frankly, the Sixers also fall into the category of a team capable of outlasting Boston by controlling the paint, anchored by All-Pro center Joel Embiid, Philly currently ranks Top 8 in the league in both offensive and defensive rating (115.6 ORtg, 111.6 DRtg). Not quite up to par with the glorious balancing act that Boston has displayed throughout the year, nonetheless, still an impressive feat.

On paper, Boston may own a slight edge over Philly, however, the Sixers have one of the best home records in the league, boasting marks of 24-8 SU and 22-10 ATS at the Wells Fargo Center on the year. So, I’ll back Philly to handle business in Saturday’s matchup against a Celtics’ squad that’s just 19-10 SU and 15-14 ATS on the road this season.
