LATEST UPDATE: The Panthers are laying 1 point in BetMGM's NFL Hall of Fame Game odds, as of 7:15 p.m. ET, 45 minutes before kickoff. That's just a tick off the opener of Carolina -1.5.

Even though it's just the first preseason game, with no stars/starters playing, it's BetMGM's most-bet game of the day, beyond any MLB or WNBA matchups. While 68% of spread bets are on the short 'dog Cardinals, money is a dead-even 50/50 split.

But BetMGM still has a preference tonight.

"As of now, we're rooting for the Panthers, mostly just due to moneyline [action]," BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said.

The total is down to 34, after sitting at 35 this morning and opening at 35.5. Tickets are dead even and money is two-way, as well, with 53% of dollars are on the Over.

THIRD UPDATE: As of 1 p.m. ET on game day, Carolina is -1.5 (-105) in DraftKings' NFL Hall of Fame Game odds. In fact, this line hasn't moved off -1.5, with only juice adjustments so far.

Ticket count on the spread is almost dead even, with a slight lean to the Cardinals. But money is more solidly on the short 'dog, at 74% on Arizona.

DraftKings' total is at 34.5 (Over -115), dropping off the 35.5 opener this morning. The Under is netting 58% of bets/69% of money.

Meanwhile, earlier today, BetMGM noted that there are more bets on tonight's Panthers vs. Cardinals odds than on any MLB or WNBA game taking place today.

SECOND UPDATE: On Tuesday, first-year Arizona coach Mike LaFleur announced that rookie Carson Beck will start at quarterback Thursday night. Beck is listed third on the Cardinals' depth chart.

That gives you an idea of how big a role backups will play in the NFL's preseason opener. As noted in the opening update below, second-string QB Kenny Pickett will start for Carolina.

In Panthers vs. Cardinals odds, BetMGM opened Carolina as a 1.5-point favorite and is at Carolina -1 as of 3 p.m. ET Tuesday. There's very little action at this point, but 60% of spread bets/93% of spread dollars are on the Cards.

With the game virtually a pick 'em, Arizona is also getting 73% of early moneyline bets/81% of early moneyline cash.

The total is unchanged off a 35.5 opener, with the Under attracting 66% of early bets/74% of early cash.

OPENING ODDS UPDATE: Carolina opened as a 1.5-point favorite vs. Arizona in DraftKings Sportsbook's NFL Hall of Fame Game odds, for the traditional preseason kickoff in Canton, Ohio. As of 4 p.m. ET Monday, there's been no movement on this matchup.

The Panthers are coming off an 8-9 regular season (10-7 ATS), but somehow that was enough to win the dismal NFC South. Surprisingly, Carolina then gave the L.A. Rams a helluva fight before losing 34-31 as a 10.5-point Wild Card underdog at home.

Arizona was far worse last year, at 3-14 SU/6-11 ATS. Quarterback Kyler Murray played in just five games before getting shelved by a foot injury. The Cards proceeded to release Murray, who is now with the Minnesota Vikings.

For Thursday night, few if any starters will see playing time for either team. QB Bryce Young is definitely sitting for the Panthers, who will start Kenny Pickett. The Cardinals haven't announced their starting QB yet, but the depth chart reads:

  • Jacoby Brissett
  • Gardner Minshew
  • Carson Beck
  • Kedon Slovis

Brissett started 12 games for Arizona last season, taking over for Murray. Beck is a rookie third-round pick who guided Miami to the 2025-26 national championship game, where the Hurricanes lost to Indiana 27-21. He was also a backup on two national title teams at Georgia.
