Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys Predictions

It will be a little bittersweet for Dan Quinn to face his former team on Sunday. Quinn was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons, and he led the team to the Super Bowl. However, the team parted ways with Quinn in January, and he joined the Dallas Cowboys as their defensive coordinator. Quinn has helped turn Dallas into a Super Bowl contender, and he should have something special cooked up to stop Matt Ryan.

The Dallas Cowboys are fresh off a disappointing loss to the Denver Broncos last week. Dallas was a double-digit favorite but was outscored by 30 points before getting on the scoreboard. It was a disappointing performance for the offense, but Dak Prescott and Dallas will bounce back with a convincing win over Atlanta.

Atlanta Falcons Betting Analysis

  • SU: 4-4
  • ATS: 4-4
  • O/U: 5-3
  • ATS - Home: 0-3
  • ATS - Away: 3-1

Ryan was great last week against New Orleans. He had his best game of the season, averaging 11.4 YPA in an upset win over the Saints. Ryan is still without one of his top targets though as Calvin Ridley remains away from the team for personal reasons.

Rookie Kyle Pitts has been superb for the Falcons. He is on pace to finish with over 1,200 yards, as he is a matchup nightmare on the outside with his size and speed. There isn’t another wide receiver that can make opponents pay with Ridley out, so Pitts is vital to this offense.

Cordarrelle Patterson is one of the most underrated players in the league considering what he does for this offense. Patterson is Atlanta’s most effective runner, and he is a solid receiver too. He leads the team in rushing yards and receptions.

The Falcons don’t have a good defense. They are allowing 27.5 PPG, ranking 28th in the NFL in that category. Starting defensive end Jonathan Bullard and linebacker Steven Means are both doubtful to play this week, and Dante Fowler Jr. is on IR.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Analysis

  • SU: 6-2
  • ATS: 7-1
  • O/U: 5-3
  • ATS - Home: 3-1
  • ATS - Away: 4-0

After missing the Sunday Night Football game with Minnesota, Prescott was expected to light up Denver last week. However, Prescott had one of his worst performances of the season. He completed less than 50% of his passes and didn’t move the ball until garbage time. Atlanta has a much less formidable secondary though.

There are some injury concerns for Dallas. Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, and Cedrick Wilson are all considered questionable, and Tyron Smith is a big question mark too. Mike McCarthy said that Smith must practice on Saturday in order to play, but he missed last week with a bone spur in his ankle.

Dallas has the most prolific offense in the NFL. The Cowboys are averaging 434.2 YPG, and this ground game ranks in the top five. Elliott is averaging 4.9 YPC and should finish with over 1,000 yards, and there’s a chance that Tony Pollard eclipses 1,000 rushing yards too.

Quinn has made the Cowboys’ defense better, but they are going to be shorthanded this weekend. Randy Gregory was placed on injured reserve, and DeMarcus Lawrence is still on IR. Linebacker Micah Parsons is currently the frontrunner for Defensive Rookie of the Year though.

The Cowboys have covered the spread in seven of their last eight games. (AP)

Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys Betting Conclusion

This will be a bounce back game for Dallas. The Cowboys are more banged up than the Falcons, but they have more talent and a better defense. Quinn’s familiarity with Atlanta will help him create a solid game plan to pick up a double digit win.
