Cincinnati Bengals vs. Las Vegas Raiders Predictions

The Bengals and Raiders each enter this game just one game above .500, and it seems like they should be much better. They have been, at times, while at other times they have had lapses to prior bad habits and ugly losing streaks.

Cincinnati was flying high at 5-2 SU/4-3 ATS after a Week 7 thrashing of the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium, sitting in first place. They were even the No. 1 seed in the AFC, if the playoff started on Halloween. The Bengals received a trick, not a treat, on Oct. 31 in the Meadowlands, blowing a late 11-point lead to fall 34-31 to the New York Jets in Week 8. They were favored by 11.5. They were favored by two points in Week 9 against the division rival Cleveland Browns and proceeded to lay the biggest egg of the season, falling 41-16. That's 37.5 PPG allowed by the defense in the past two games against QBs Mike White and Baker Mayfield.

The Raiders have had a trying season. We had the Jon Gruden situation. Then the Henry Ruggs III situation. Then the Damon Arnette situation. What's next? So many distractions, yet this team has responded pretty well, wending through a series of off-field issues to still be fairly productive. Perhaps there are some chinks in the armor, though. The offense struggled in a 23-16 loss on the road against the New York Giants, and they followed it up with a 41-14 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. That's just 15.0 PPG in the past two, and 32.0 PPG allowed. We have two teams desperately in need of a win, so it should be a good one.

Cincinnati Bengals Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-4
  • ATS: 4-5
  • O/U: 4-5
  • ATS - Home: 1-3
  • ATS - Away: 3-2

The Bengals are hopeful two weeks off since that Cleveland loss will mend any bumps and bruises, and snap the team back onto its upward trajectory. Total bettors have been a fan of this team, as the UNDER was 5-0 from Weeks 2 through 6, before the current 3-0 OVER run.

The Bengals won't mind being back on the road, where they have arguably had more success. The Baltimore game was a watershed moment for QB Joe Burrow, proving that the previous week's 34-11 win in Detroit wasn't just because of the opposition being weak, but because the offense has staying power. The offense even had 31 points in the loss to the Jets, it was the defense which had the late hiccup. And yes, the defense allowed a season-high 41 points last time out against the Browns at home, so hopefully plenty of mind was paid on that side of the football in the past two weeks.

It's been a season of mini runs for the Bengals. They are 0-2 ATS in the past two games, 2-0 ATS in the prior two, 0-2 ATS in the two before that, and 2-1 ATS in the first three games of the season. Perhaps a new cover streak is coming.

Las Vegas Raiders Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-4
  • ATS: 4-5
  • O/U: 5-4
  • ATS - Home: 2-3
  • ATS - Away: 2-2

All of the off-field distractions might be catching up to the Raiders, as they're 0-2 SU/ATS across the past two games. Vegas is averaging just 15.0 PPG, while allowing 32.0 PPG, and they're just 2-5 ATS across the past seven games overall. The Chiefs really opened up a can on the Raiders, posting a season-high 41 points against this defense, as QB Patrick Mahomes finally looked like himself. And TE Travis Kelce was running amok, seemingly everywhere, having one of his best performances of the season. TE C.J. Uzomah likely won't put up Kelce-like numbers, but could be in like for a huge week.

The Raiders have posted a 5-2 ATS mark across the past seven as an underdog, while going 2-5 ATS in the previous seven games overall. That's a little inconsistent, but the trends all point to the OVER for totals. The OVER is 8-1 in the past nine games at home, 10-4 in the past 14 games overall and 11-3-1 in the past 14 games as an underdog. The OVER is also 11-0-1 in the past 12 for the Raiders as a home underdog, and 6-0-1 in the past seven at home against teams with a winning road record.

The OVER is 11-0-1 in the past 12 as a home underdog for the Raiders. (AP)

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Las Vegas Raiders Betting Conclusion

Not many people hop on the airplane heading out of Las Vegas with winnings, but the Chiefs and Chicago Bears have done so in two of the past three Raiders home games. The Bengals are going to do it, too. Cincinnati has a more well-rounded offense, and they return from a bye week rested and rejuvenated.

The Bengals haven't really responded well as a favorite, going 2-6 ATS in the past eight games as a favorite, although they're 6-2 ATS in the past eight on the road against teams with a winning home mark. The Bengals have also responded well after losses, going 4-1 ATS in the past five following a straight-up loss. The Raiders have looked sluggish and tired, as it appears all of the off-field situations are really starting to take a toll. The physical well-being of this team is OK, as the Raiders do not have a lot of major injuries to sway this game one way or the other. But the mental well-being of the team might be taking a hit. Take the team that is physically and mentally in a better place, the visitors.
